Holfin Finebeard

Background and Story

Bio & Info

Holfins father died with defending the Temple of Sartar from dragonewts.

 Haram Hardfist died gloriously defending the temple at Boldhome - along with others from our clan. My childhood friend was a crested dragonewt ( They are the ones sometimes mangled to be able to talk to humans) It just showed up near where we lived as a child ,and would ask us how we felt that our father had died, and it would say things like - 'All fathers are the great worm, Ouroboros, all else is illusion, Sadness is the mind biting its own tail'. Or 'He died thinking of you thinking of him, the mind is the mirror of the soul, the body the mirror of Ancestry. Existence is merely recursion'

I guess it would appear , mystify small human test subject with inscrutable draconic shit and disappear before angry local parents tore it to bits. At least once it got caught and torn to bits but came back a week later anyway - seemingly unconcerned - and that totally fascinated me. Children are unable to process the concepts of draconic reincarnation so we assumed it was a friend.


At some point a Lankhor Mhy sage interested in the dragonnewts found out and visited - and took advantage of its obsession in order to study it - via me as a proxy. This led to me spending time and being talked to by a Sage about what to say and ask the dragonnewt - as it wouldn't respond to questions unless they were from me - and the responses were always couched as draconic mysteries. For young fatherless me having a respected figure and a mysterious creature hang around me was probably both comforting and made me feel important. So i naturally fixated on the behaviour and interests of the Sage. Eventually the dragonnewt stopped visiting as often and the sage moved on , but by then Id picked up enough basics to be considered a promising inquiring young mind - with the basics of letters.

Fast forward a few years and I'm too independent to be a scribe and too low station for significant temple duties. The weird draconic mysticism and the ravings of the old scribe mean I'm open to mental contortions common to sorcery. I managed to find some sorcery primer hints for spirit summons and binding hidden in esoteric EWF architectural designs while translating the book. Turns out that many important EWF buildings were designed to interact with the spirit plane and channel energy and spirits. Dabbling there leads to mandatory actual temple classes (this covers the differences between professional sorcery spells and the temple trained stuff).

My interest in robust debating and discussion means in not really cut out for the normal secret hoarding politics of temple - and im kicked out into the wild to make a living as a novelty intellectual who part times as a scribe to make ends meet.

Im interested in elder races and strange animals - but on a practical note of making a living - also interested in Clan law and justice as a profession - a lot of my times probably recording and writing records of decisions made of disputes and the pros and cons of various arguments being brought to trial. I have truetalk and I'm literate and one of my higher skill sis local customs - so i reckon i can make a living as an advocate and clan clerk.

Lhankhor Mhy worshippers wear beards - He is called Finebeard - not because he has a fantastic beard - its very fine hair - and only technically a beard - the name is mockery - just like his so called beard.

Family

My father Haram Hardfist would have died fighting alongside Ageir's and Ivarthe's mum and dad, who died with great glory, were fighting together when the dragonewts stormed the Temple of Sartar.

Fathers siblings

Oneslin Slowfire (alive) and finally after a 16 year courtship married to Tostar Fieldmarker farmer - alive
Jenestra Redlip (alive) and married to a Sarlokar Strongarm a warrior - alive who is jealous of any man looking on his flirtaceous wife.
Kallalla Sad-song died never married though many sought her heart none gained it - as a trickster stole it and hid it.
Merlana Ten-men alive , young at heart and  (currently) married to Korvenos the Reed fisher also alive- but who knows how long for.

My childhood sage who inspired me and set me on the path to intellectual inquisitiveness was Esrolinas uncle. Who is now outlawed (by lunars?)

My cryptic reincarnating cryptid friend is Soltearisss who I remember as Salt Tears - because he was fascinated by humans shedding them and i haven't had a visit for years. Maybe he got bored - who knows - do with as you wish. Im happy to cough up cryptic draconian quotes from time to time ill attribute to him. Maybe he finally got what he needed and moved along the draconic path of enlightenment.

Spends a lot of time making notes about on the two books he carries. He claims one only appears to be a manual on EWF architecture its actually a manual for geomantic transformation of the spirit plane using n-planar construction that causes echoes into the spirit plane. The other is a treatise by a retired sun dome priest on the many aspects and meanings of The sun.
