Back to Technological level

Inter-dimensional travel is divided into two areas: Travel between the different planes of the universe, and travel to other universes altogether (see Human exploration of the world).

Inter-planar travel has long been the domain of high-level mystics, but in the modern era, technologies that can achieve it belong to the public domain (albeit they remain prohibitively expensive for any mass application). Inter-universal travel, on the other hand, can only be achieved with reverse-engineered Madman technology. Other than Madman himself, the only groups known to have the blueprints for inter-universal portals are Venture Industries and Shadow (who stole their plans from the former). This portal technology dabbles with the fundamental forces of the universe; for now, the portals generated remain very fragile, and are so easily disturbed by gravitons that they can only be opened in outer space, at least several thousands miles away from the Earth's surface. This limitation is probably considered a relief by much of the public - though it ought to be noted that Madman's own portals suffer no such limitation.
