History[edit]

Joseph Chiesa ("Beppe" for family and closest friends; "Joey" for everyone else) has always been known as the "Good Samaritan". The kind of person that could never resist helping those in dire need. If a cheap ride wasn't cheap enough, every needy on the street knew he could look for Joey's cab. This City is a villainous hive of wretchedness; to Joey, the worst possible crime was to let peaople struggle. Of course, that wasn't an easy way of life: the meager revenues of a taximan were already low, and Joey was willingly cutting them left and right. Shady jobs came and went sometimes: smuggling "medicinal herbs", carrying "musical instruments to big bands", even escorting "a VIP to his room"; Joey did many missions that needed a reliable ride and a believable smile. It made life a lot smoother, but it came with its own lot of unfortunate consequences and misfortunes. So many events that made him think he was going either numb or crazy; which made the first discussions with dead people all the more quaint. After all, Joey already spoke with the City's shadows; why not speak with its spirits too?

As to "why", he was bestowed that gift, Joey has a hunch: the dead who aren't silent are usually restless. Full of sorrow. Full of anger. Full of questions. In his mundane life, he helped people in need, did small talk with the talkatives and dealt in the occasional shady business on the side, trying to postpone the need to deal his lack of sleep, nicotine, or joy. His attitude to the Dead was the same; it only meant many more souls to guide to shore.

But in the City, trying to do good and speaking to dead people are two things that can put you on radars. Joey was known in the underworld for doing business with them; in the needy communities, because he was willing to help; and those connected to the Dead started noticing someone could listen to them. It was only a matter of time before the Order of the Watchtower contacted him. The opportunity was a case involving a haunted house: the Order went there to investigate, and they found Joey discussing with the resident ghost, trying to get a better picture of the situation. First contact was made, and since Joey was both a big help and a willful one, the decision was made to make him a member of the Order, where he discovered the true colours of several familiar faces.

Crew Relationships[edit]

Evgeniy Mura has witnessed Joey doing business with shady individuals, which is something that, even if he has no fundamental problems with, he is still cautious about. Joey wants to show him that his business relations with organised crime were out of sheer necessity; he always made a point of not directly kill or hurt anyone, and he never did shady work if he could avoid it.

Joey and Roger Wilson met each other on a professional level: Roger and his band needed a ride to travel between gigs. Joey's willingness to be ready, efficient, occasionally easy-going on prices, in addition to casual small talk, made him a reliable, positive element of Roger's everyday life.

Joey and Garry get along quite well; Joey's natural attitude of a "Good Samaritan" is a way of thinking that Garry wishes to emulate, and Joey is more than willing to help Garry get there.

Joey helped Kara Miller explore her own Mythos; his ability to see and communicate with the Dead was something that interested Kara, since death seemed to be a natural part of her life. Kara is a person used to act with her best interest in mind, while Joey always acted more easily if it furthered other people's agendas; this complementarity in personality seemed to translate well in their Mythoi.

The personality of Abigail Mars seems to be the exact opposite of Joey's: she is shy where Joey is outgoing, book smart and prone to look for answers in them where Joey doesn't read that much and relies more on his experience of life and people. Thoses differences allows for both personalities to shine and to grow together.
