POLICE PUZZLED BY

POINTLESS MURDER;

SEEKING PUBLIC’S HELP

San Vieta Ca.
September 12, 1921
Evening Edition

A young woman was found brutally murdered today on Orange Street on San Vieta’s east side. Dora Elise August, age 20, was apparently on her way home from church choir practice when she was surprised by her assailant. Police theorize that the unknown attacker dragged the girl into an adjacent alleyway and slit her throat with what the coroner describes as a small, single edged, instrument, possibly similar to a folding razor or skinning knife. No attempt had been made to otherwise molest Miss August. Her handbag, containing her week’s wages, was still clutched in her hand when her body was found, and there was no indication of a struggle. Time of death was estimated to be between 9:30 and 11:30p.m.

No witnesses have come forward in regard to the tragedy, and police are seeking this papers side in appealing to the public. Anyone with information on the murder or who can supply any possible motive or suspects in the case is asked to contact Detective Calvin Wagner or Abe Gillam. Anonymity is guaranteed.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. They are private, and the press is requested not to attend. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey August, a sister, and three brothers survive Miss August.
