Born more than 3,000 years ago, the shaman Manitou Raven comes from a North American tribe that were ancestors of the Apache people. When the Atlantesn sorceress Gamemnae foresaw that the time-traveling JLA could foil her plans to dominate Atlantis during it's Obsidian Age, she recruited warriors from primitive societies to act as her defenders. Manitou and others formed the League of Ancients, believing they needed to destroy a "seven-headed Hydra" to save the world.
Manitou soon realized that he was fighting on the wrong side. He helped the Justice League defeat Gamemnae and accompanied the modern day heroes back to their own era
