Bride of Valthrax[edit]

The Dragon's Butcher

Victim turned victimiser, Marigold was an imperial enforcer while the empire still stood. Cruelly bound to the dragon Valthrax, she and her sword Ash-Tongue took countless lives in the emperor's name - most undeserving. And when the emperor was slain - when the empire toppled - she found herself alive and adrift. Lacking purpose in a world that saw her evil for what it was. Slowly, falteringly, she has begun trying to make amends: to carve out some kind of life for herself in this new and brighter world. But Mary's road is paved with many skulls and she dares not ask for a forgiveness she surely does not deserve.

TRUTHS OF HEART AND BLADE[edit]

Undeserving: when you become Smitten with someone, say why and give them a string. Then answer this question:

   * why do you think they would be wrong to forgive you?

Your Wicked Heart: when you Figure Out a Person during physical conflict you my additionally ask one of these questions (even on a 6-):

   * What are you most ashamed of?
   * How could I get you to betray your ideals?

MOVES[edit]

Wicked Past: when you hear about a villain for the first time, you may decide that you know them from your past. If so, give them a String on you to ask a question from the Figure Out a Person list and take +1 forward against them.

Make It Right: when you allow yourself to be vulnerable to someone you hurt during your villainous past, they choose 1:

   * Decline to Engage - they gain a String on you.
   * Lash out - you stagger.
   * Guide you - they mark XP and give you a task to help make amends.
   * Show vulnerability - you take +1 forward to interact with them.
   * Forgive you - you each clear a Condition, and this move no longer triggers with them.

Always Suspect: when you pretend to be a villain to win a villain's trust, they trust you enough to offer you an opportunity and you gain a String on them. You must choose one of the following options:

   * Someone watching comes to the worst possible conclusion.
   * The villain requires an act of villainy to prove your intentions first.
   * The villain is only pretending to trust you and the opportunity is a trap.

Talons of the Past: when you gain a String on someone associated with your villainous past, or vice versa, mark XP. The first time this happens for a given person, you can each define a secret or vulnerability you know about the other.

STRINGS[edit]

    [X][ ][ ][ ] Constance
    [X][X][ ][ ] Ophelia

Relationships[edit]

  • I have wronged Constance terribly. Many of her order died at my hands, and she knows it was me.
  • Ophelia believes in me more than I believe in myself. She is on her own journey, and has to trust that even someone like me can be saved...to trust for sure that she can be saved herself.

What Cannon Be Undone[edit]

  • I am most proud of how easily I have come to serve Galladia. I was worried I would find it hard to adapt to something so different.
  • What causes me the most grief is how little what I did mattered. Every drop of blood I split was all for nought - I killed needlessly, and thoughtlessly, and caused harm for no cause worth fighting for.
  • I have sworn these things to myself, and breaking these vows will cause me to Stagger:
   * I will never kill when told to again. If I must take a life, it must be my decision.
   * I must not demonise people simply for being different. It makes evil all too easy.
   * I cannot allow myself to use Valthrax's fire. It is a murderous thing that threatens to escape my control.
