Event: The Great Mazadean Exodus[edit]

Tone: Dark.

Legacy: The Bitter Liberation. People have their freedom again, but at the price of renewed strife and bigotry, driven by the Pure Thought Crusade. This is especially bitter for the non-human races being persecuted by the Pure Thought Crusade.

The city-state of Mazad was long a great center of cosmopolitanism, trade and learning, located at a key point along the confluence of the Jagash and Negregur Rivers, bringing many peoples, races, religions together, where they lived side by side in relative harmony. It was also one of the first places liberated from the rule of the Invisible Empire, when agents of Pure Thought Crusade infiltrated the town, assassinated the senior members of the Order of the Great Harmonious Peace acting as "advisers" to the City Council, and burned their monastery to the ground. The Pure Thought Crusade then marched on the city to establish its own rule. After so long under the thumb of the Invisible Empire, no one in the city of Mazad really knew how to do anything independently any more, so no one knew how to organize an effective defense of the city on their own. Knowing that they might well face the sword if they stayed, the non-humans of Mazad engaged in a disorganized mass exodus, seeking shelter away from the reach of the Crusade. Many of the refugees died along the way.
