Miranda Garrison :: Wolf Hearth

Avatar Icon 001.png

According to page 362 of Anderson's Wands of the World, Buloke is not recommended because it's too stubborn to work well with almost any wizard - but the right witch is another matter.

Distinctions/SFX d8

Checked SFX are active.

Wolf Hearth Distinction - Are we sure her name's not Loki?

Check002.png Hinder: Sometimes your distinction works against you. Gain 1 plot point when you roll a D4a.png instead of a D8a.png
Check002.png Activated SFX: Trickster of the Gods No one messes with people's heads like you mess with people's heads. When performing a practical joke, spend a PP to give your joke scale (roll an extra d8 to add to your 2 dice total as a third die)
Unactivated SFX: Description

Wizarding World Distinction - Creatrix of the Wandbreaker Hex

Check002.png Hinder: Sometimes your distinction works against you. Gain 1 plot point when you roll a D4a.png instead of a D8a.png
Check002.png Activated SFX: Quick Draw This spell is second nature to you. After all, you invented it. Even when you're not faster than the other duelist, you're usually faster than the other duelist. When using Wandbreaker in a duel, you can reroll all dice from the original roll. On the reroll, all dice that roll 1s or 2s are considered hitches. You must use the second roll.
Unactivated SFX: Description

Free Distinction - Thinks a mile a minute - and talks faster.

The problem for many people in dealing with Miranda is that she doesn't look like people expect a prankster to look - any more than she looks like a master duelist. She's well-kept, blonde hair always impeccably managed (usually in a coiled braid pattern), her clothing is always spotless and well-pressed (even after exerting herself).

Those who describe her tend to say that she looks very studious, always with her nose in a book or staring off into space. Those who know her will say that those are the danger signs to look out for. Everyone in her Hearth (Yes, including the Hearth head) has been pranked by her at least once. Her saving grace, and the point that all her Hearth members will bring up, is that she never, ever pulls a prank that will hurt someone. Embarrass, yes. Hurt, no.

Despite her apparently studious nature, her Hearth mates will tend to warn (or maybe won't, depending on their estimation of the individual) that engaging Miranda in conversation is much like standing in front of a firehose. Brace yourself, and expect that you won't catch more than a small part of what she's sending your way.

What astounds most people is how few can actually give a good physical description of her. Yeah, she's blonde. But tall? Short? Svelte? Rounder? No one can say with any authority, except maybe Jeannie Cranston. She and Miranda have been a couple, very openly, since last year. She wryly notes that being Miranda's girlfriend does not exempt her from practical jokes. It apparently just means that Miranda has more information to work with.

Miranda is a duelist, and a member of the Dueling club. She astounded everyone last year when she introduced a new hex she called the Wandbreaker Hex, which can actually confound a wand, making its reactions to its wielder slower, sometimes less efficient. To date, she hasn't officially taught to anyone, though some of those who've watched her use it have managed its use.
