A player character in the "Extinction Curse" (Pathfinder 2e) game run by SuperZero.

Appearance

A tall(ish) half-orc (5'10", 220 lbs.), with grey-green skin, blue eyes, and short black hair. Often wears a worn blue leather apron; it's standard cow leather dyed with berry juices, but he'll spin wild yarns about what exotic beast it came from.

Role

Serves as the cook and part-time medic for the Circus of Wayward Wonder. For his party, he's a healer, a diplomat, and can provide buffs and AoE damage (and later, debuffs).

History

Grew up {somewhere}, among other orcs and half-orcs. Has a younger sister, a big beefy half-orc warrior; she's the apple of their parent's eye, while he's the "black sheep." He preferred quiet pursuits, reading, anything he could get his hands on; became fascinated with alchemy. Grew up being seen as weak by his orc & half-orc family, but also as monstrous by humans.

Personality & Motivation

His upbringing lead him to develop a dry, sardonic wit, delivering uncomfortable truths clearly and without (much) malice, yet he also maintained compassion and deep caring for all living beings. Grew more and more interested in alchemical healing arts, seeing mortal skill as more reliable than divine magic. Believes that a good drink or meal -- and the open conversations that come with it -- can solve anything. Longs for travel, to learn the alchemical/healing arts of distant lands, which is how he ended up with the Celestial Menagerie, and then the Circus of Wayward Wonders.

Behind the Scenes

My main inspiration for Hakak is Star Trek's Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, particularly the DeForest Kelley version (no offense to Karl Urban!), and a bit of Urag gro-Shub (from Skyrim).

SuperZero is letting us use the Free Archetype variant rule (Gamemastery Guide, p.194), and Herbalist was too obvious a choice to pass up. He'll also be taking Poisoner, since the difference between a cure & a poison is often merely one of dosage.
