Background[edit]

An abandoned child, left with a religious order that raised her, but it was clear that her temperment wasn't suited to a cloistered order-- she enjoyed smiting evildoers rather too much.

RIGHTS AND WRONGS[edit]

Duty: Pentesilia will always help people in trouble.

Revenge: Pentesilia is inclined to repay past harms, but will always, if reluctantly, stop such activity if faced with a reasonably sincere apology.

Punishment: Pentesilia feels that the guilty should be punished, but that this is the first step to reforming them.

Trust: Pentesilia was once a very trusting young woman. Briefly.

Lying: Pentesilia does not lie, except to protect others. And she's not very good at it.

Stealing: Pentesilia is firmly convinced that stealing is wrong. However, in the case of someone poor and starving stealing from someone rich, she will tend to mentally recast it as "Not stealing." Likewise, trophies won in battle are not, to her mind, theft, and if someone poor and starving were to steal food, it can be safely assumed that Pentesilia would lecture nearby merchants and nobles on their lack of generosity.

Cheating: Pentesilia would never swindle others. She firmly obeys the religious precepts of her order, but does not feel that the law of the land is inherently worth obeying. (She might still obey a law, but that is out of convenience, not morality.)

Killing: Pentesilia will certainly kill for assorted reasons-- to protect herself or others, to punish someone who she regards as too vile to live. She would not normally kill, or countenance the killing of, a surrendered enemy, unless it was clear to her that the surrender was fraudulent. She is inclined to view anyone who can speak or communicate a surrender must surely qualify as worthy of mercy, regardless of their beliefs or how many horns or tentacles are extruded from their head. She wouldn't kill when there is no threat to herself or others, however. (someone she regards as too great a sinner to live surely qualifies as the later!) But when she is willing to kill, for protection or punishment, the identity of her target is irrelevant-- orc or elf, bandit or king, man or woman, youth or grandsire, her determination is strong.

Authority: Pentesilia is a devout follower of the religious law of the order she was raised in, and tends to not question it. Other laws, however, and the authority of kings are secondary to her, and while she may well obey such laws or commands for various reasons, this is not a matter of a principle of obedience, but instead of not making too much trouble for others.

Class: Pentesilia's order holds that all are equal before the Divine. Therefore, she is willing to deal with anyone-- but doesn't generally do well at it, as she's been a bit isolated. She regards the Divine as absolute, and therefore heathen beliefs aren't relevant-- in other words, she regards religious observances outside her beliefs as unimportant. She would have no issues with someone claiming to both follow her beliefs and sacrifice goats to the Seven Who Eat Eyes, as long as they weren't violating the precepts of her beliefs, such as not hurting others needlessly. Likewise, if, from her viewpoint, manners required her to join in a prayer to The Serpent That Dances On The Moon, she would quite possibly make one, so as to be a good guest or ally, because the Divine is absolute, so a prayer to the Serpent That Dances simply doesn't matter.

Honor: As is quite clear by now, Pentesilia follows the precepts fo the order that raised her-- Serve and Honor the Divine above all. Do not harm others needlessly. Aid the downtrodden and poor. Demand justice, but show mercy to the repentant. Honor the just, and show good will to those around you.

Races: There's nothing in Pentesilia's upbringing that says that other humanoid races don't serve the Divine, so they do.

SINS AND VIRTUES[edit]

Pentesilia is inclined to be prideful, in that trying-to-be-humble-about-it way.

She is kind, if forceful about it.

She is restrained, to a degree that can be as obsessive as gluttony.

She is chaste, but that isn't a principle of her teachings. She hasn't sorted out what to do with those feelings and desires yet.

She is both wrathful and forgiving-- wrathful by nature, forgiving by principle.

She is extremely charitable.

She is quite diligent, finding pride and satisfaction in hard work.

MAJOR LIFE EVENTS[edit]

Pentesilia has made an enemy of the son of the Baron of Everforth, and quite possibly, by extension, his father. (Pentesilia felt that her religious values, such as punishing the guilty and aiding the downtrodded, trumped "I'm the Baron's son, and nobody cares what happens to people like this anyway." It left quite an impression on the son.)

Pentesilia underwent some tragedy when she was, essentially, asked to leave her home, after her enthusiasm for seeking justice caused a large-scale battle with bandits, although, in all fairness, no blame was attached to her.

Pentesilia has earned a debt of gratitude for saving the life of the thief Green Teria, when she stood about to be hung for a crime she hadn't committed. (Perhaps the only crime, mind you, she was innocent of.) This has left Pentesilia often in a slightly uncomfortable position.
