    • These extremely dangerous creatures were fixtures of Oberon's presence for a thousand years. Nearly always around him. When Clarissa and Oberon separated he retired the dogs, since they were showing signs of age and being sickly and near death. They went to Birdie's rooms. When the king's bed was put in Birdie's room they took their place on it, leaving ample room for her and other pets. They appear elderly, but are still extraordinarily dangerous.
    • In need suits of scale armor appear on them for battle. The armor is very magical in their own right.
    • They often follow Birdie as she goes on her rounds. If Birdie was for any reason threatened they would instantly appear.

Miscellany

Birdie is a fixture in Castle Amber. Born in Tazilwere. She was maidservant to the daughter of the Ambassador to Amber from Tazilwere. She was uncommonly good with animals. When the Ambassador returned to Tazilwere she took service with Dame Margot in 485 BKA.[[1]]

Over time she became the keeper of the pets in Castle Amber. Her role was undirected and she has always reported directly to Dame Margot. Her unclear position has made her many enemies over the years but most often she was overlooked. Many of the nobles, senior staff, and royalty forget she is a member of the staff. What is unquestioned is the devotion of the animals in Castle Amber to her. Usually she goes about unnoticed, unobtrusively. She is an example of a content mortal living in Amber and effected by the Aging in Amber.

She once got in a bitter confrontation with Eric when he was about to kill a pet goat that Corwin had given him. Eric laughed it off. (Effects of her 5 pips of Good Stuff, probably)

She once directed the cats to poop in the office of the Chief Librarian of Amber's office when he restricted staff use of reading facilities to one afternoon a week for checkout only. The cats all made thier way to crap in his office till Margot convinced him to change the staff reading rule. Then the cats left him alone.

Her residence is in an unfashionable tower tucked into the collection of east facing servant residences. The top three levels belong to her and all the forgotten pets.

She is a voracious reader. She often finds a nook to hide and read in the Library of Amber or one of its satellite reading areas throughout the Castle Grounds. Her being seen by the staff just sitting and reading has on occasion been a complaint to Dame Margot who invariably tells them that if Birdie was shirking her responsibilities the castle would be hip deep in pet poop. She has a surprisingly deep level of knowledge derived from thousands of years of constant reading.

She has had romantic interludes, usually with staff, but no children and no memorable relationships.
