Sahnket had always been a curious youth, but as a saying goes that has been carried down through countless ages, "curiosity kills the cat." What a cat is, or was, is now long lost to the people of the current world, but apparently the old warning still rings true.

Sahnket was living proof.

While trailing after his beast of burden that was helping to plow his father's field early one morning, Sahnket was awoken from his daydreaming when he nearly stumbled over something that the simple plow had unearthed. In all actuality, there were two "somethings" when he actually bent to investigate. They looked to him like elongated, metallic vegetables - like the orange ones that occasionally grew wildly in the hills around the village. They were bulbous on one end and tapered to a narrow and quite sharp point on the other end. Picking them up, one in each hand, he noticed how warm they felt. He was surprised when they each began to vibrate, too.

The vibration was so low that at first he thought he was imaging the sound, but eventually it became a whine, and the hairs on his forearms began to stand on end. Little sparks began to leap from one item to the other across the short distance he held them apart...

... and then he tried it. He connected the bulbous ends.

The resounding explosion killed his father's beast of burden and set the fields aflame. To those who were in the village at the same time, they claimed that the sky opened itself up and bright blue bolts of "anger from the heavens" struck the ground - right at the very spot that Sahnket was standing.

When the boy awoke, he was lying in a crater in the middle of the field. Most of his clothing had been singed away, and the stench of burnt flesh and hair was sickeningly strong on the wind. He was afraid to poke and prod himself at first, but when he discovered that he was untouched - almost completely unharmed (and that the smell was ultimately coming from what was left of his father's beast) - he was overjoyed.

Except that he also discovered that his hands had taken on the same metallic sheen of the two strange items. And that his skin was now tinged a very light blue. And all of his body hair had been completely removed. But other than that, he was in perfect health. His body, especially his muscles, felt a little jumpy, as though a current of some kind was flowing through him, and he was afraid of what the members of the village would say when they saw him. Thankfully he was accepted, but he quickly became an oddity. Word spread about his condition and although the world was full of the strange and unusual, Sahnket was the most unusual thing to his own people.

Eventually being the village oddity grew old, and discovering that he had discovered some strange abilities with his accident, Sahnket received his parents' blessing to make his way into the world in order to ply his trade in the hopes of making enough money to change his family's living situation.
