ESCAPE FROM CHAOS part II
Friday, June 27th, 5pm-12am.
GM: KEVIN
ISSUE RECAP:
Encounter 1 - Zombies Rising
As our heroes climb the stair from the Temple Torture Chamber, the sound of "ORCUS IS!!" still rings in the air... yet now another sound chimes as a deep bell tolls. Beyond the hall they spy from beneath the stone tile temple hall floors undead in acolyte robes crawl out of their hidden places. Though they seem to ignore our heroes one "intelligent-watcher" undead acolyte directs gravehounds to take car of this minor challenge as the horde moves up into the upper temple. The battle with the zombiefied dogs is fierce and as our heroes triumph they see Sister Jadescale rise as one of them - having been torn from the mortal coil by the dog-beasts she rises as a minion of Orcus... a Rotwing Zombie!
Encounter 2 - Blade Drop (Pendulum Trap)
Barely escaping the zombie horde, the gravehounds and their former companion Jadescale - our heroes advance but watch as the watcher-zombie closes the temple door. Suspecting the door to be trapped Imnar slowly checks the area, not knowing he'd already stepped into the pressure plates that with one more step would activate swinging blades some 15 feet infront of the dungeon door! Leaping from the trap blood spattered as the goblin fell to the stairs in pain. But with cunning defeats the trap by lodging wooden pews, tables and benches into the pendulums to disarm and break the trap down... circumventing the deathtrap!
Encounter 3 - Betwixt the Undead Horde (Skill Challenge)
Seeing the light of day, our heroes cautiously move to try to escape but between sweet success and their position are 20-50-100(??!!) undead acolytes! Blocking the temple entrance the priests of Orcus engage in defense of their temple with "Those Pink Bastards" - the Ironshod Company just outside. But with cunning and stealth the three monsters don temple robes and work their way through the horde - not knowing that the robes they wore would completely mask them from detection(!)... Once on the opposite side of the horde (and spying the Tiefling Rogue of the Ironshod rushing into the temple above in the beam rafters) our heroes make their way to the collapsed caverns for which Minsore recognized as having reentered the Caves of Chaos just following the Slaughter only a few days ago - the portal that lead out through the "Caves of the Unknown" (aka. "Bargle's Caverns")!

Total XP for this session: 1,725(?) (575 for each player)

ESCAPE FROM CHAOS part I
Friday, June 20th, 9pm-1am.
GM: KEVIN
ISSUE RECAP:
Encounter 1 - Ghostly Encounter
With the scent of dragon in the air, the survivors found their way to what they would learn to be a guest chamber for the Temple of Chaos. Within the Medusa Princess the monsters had freed earlier had attempted to take her "revenge" on the man who called himself Bargle. But as Bargle was fending off the petrification his assigned protector stepped up - blasting Goy'az through the door before our Heroes. Quickly taking action Imnar and Minsore found a way to destroy the ghostly-specter creature through the power of the paladin's faith.
Encounter 2 - The Man formerly known as Bargle
After interrogating the man claiming to be Bargle (a failed Skill Challenge) the trio uncovered his "prize"... the Spawn of the Emerald Mountain, a dragon egg of power that Sister Jadescale's talon had lost.
Encounter 3 - Slimed...
True to his word - the "late" magic-user, told Minsore and Imnar that beyond the Guest Chambers was the torture gallery. Although it was unusually quiet (due to the rally of the Orcus Acolytes nearer the temple entrance) beneath the dungeon tiles lay ambush! In the blood and gore catcher below an iron maden lurked some sort of orche jelly beast! Splitting to become multiple opponents - the creature gave the monsters a surprise fight... but the two heroes made quick work and returned to their quest for escape.

Total XP for this session: 850 (425 for each player)

LAST MONSTER STANDING
Saturday, June 14th, 10am-2am.
GM: KEVIN
ISSUE RECAP:
Encounter 1 - the Origin
The Skill Challenge opening: "24 hours ago there were xx members of your tribe/race, now there is one!" What do you do? These were all very interesting and basically became the origin story of what will become the PC party group. Everyone except Bill's character won a success in their Skill Challenge, although all had a bitter win.
Encounter 2 - the Meeting
With the Origin encounter leading directly to the PCs meeting for the first time, only Eric and Adam stayed through and after the first encounter. The Goblin and Gnoll found one another in a secret tunnel connecting the Hobgoblin and Gnoll lairs. Trapped on both sides they found a third way out, a secret passage into the Chaos Temple caverns! But not before being skewered a few times with traps... heheh
Encounter 3 - Into the Chaos Temple
(aka. "the Lair of the Veranda Door!!")
Opening into the primary storage room of the Chaos Temple (later determined to be followers of the Orcus Cults, and clearly usurpers of Tiamat). The Imnar & Minsore searched/looted for supplies, knowing they might never be able to enter a town for food/etc... The door to this room was made of "imperfect glass" and the duo could see on the outside lurked an armored man - perhaps guarding the door or trying to look in. After a fun battle with the door... they moved on. (as noted by Adam and Eric - I'm proud to say, this was one of the very best scenes I've ever DMed) ask them for more, heheh...
Encounter 4 - Death from Above
As the PCs moved on into the temple (interestingly hewn stone, no longer "caverns" really), they continued to be very cautious due to previous encounters/traps. Minsore noticed the odd duplication of construction in the vault areas above the dungeon halls. Not only were the vaulted ceilings constructed to hold themselves but there were also wooden support beams that seemed unnecessary. And the PCs soon learned that they were made as a hidden watch point for a temple assassin - a "Halfling Prowler", who dropped to try and kill each PC one-on-one when they split up for a short while. It didn't work. The PCs thwarted his plan and forced him to run. He darted down into a staired room they'd just found - leading to what the assassin hoped would help him escape to tell his masters!
Encounter 5 - the Crypt of the Anti-Paladin of Orcus
With the Halfling Prowler bolting for safety within the crypt, trying to hide between the 14 various sarcophagi - he managed to uncover Lord Dezinex, former paladin - now wight of Orcus, whom he hoped would be a distraction for his escape... sadly (for the halfling) it wasn't and he was killed just before the anti-paladin rose to fight. The wight, quickly realized that these "monsters" were not worthy to fight, so he called his fellowship forth - as the 13 other sarcophagi broke seals and out rose the others. Battling these many many undead was nearly fatal - however after some bad die rolling, the PCs made a comeback and barely escaped with their lives. Destroying the crypt-master and his minions!
Encounter 6 - Mirror Mirror & the Maiden
After a solid rest, having been awake for over a full day - the PCs moved out from the storage room (which they'd fallen back to for safety) and soon found an area with a strange sacrificial alter. Imnar spied a villain, rushed into the alcove and destoryed a mirror positioned on the wall - he'd seen himself. But this activity lead to a room across the hall which Minsore could see (through the door's window) a beautiful woman (to human eyes anyway) trapped within. The room was barred from the outside (much like the Crypt prior) so they moved cautiously. The woman inside seemed to be dancing in ritual-like style around 6 humanoid slaves hanging just off the ground. Opening the door and rushing in Minsore attacked, but was surprised when the woman threw her cloak back revealing hair of asps! A Medusa!! Soon Imnar was "alone" as Minsore found himself made statue, much like the humanoids she was dancing around... But Minsore's resolve was strong and he pulled back from the brink to overtake the magic gaze as the duo rushed from the room to lock the Medusa inside - but Minsore was not as luck the second time. When Imnar turned around in the hall his new friend was pertrified!! He was alone. Negotiating with the Medusa Imnar made a pact - "monster to monster" that he would allow her to go free if she'd free his friend... She agreed and after retreating - Minsore, and surprisingly, the other humanoids returned to flesh!
Encounter 7 - the Talon of Tiamat
The humanoids freed from the stone of the Medusa all fell to the ground, only one surviving the tortures prior. This priest, a cleric of Tiamat was Dragonborn. The other five, were her "Talon" - her unit, her party - on a quest to find and retake the Spawn of the Emerald Mountain. Minsore quickly remembered the ritual implements in the storeroom had an egg shaped holder that he believed hinted that this "spawn" was actually the Egg of a Green Dragon from another Realm! The PCs aided the cleric back to her feat and then retreated to the crypt to gather equipment for her to join them on the way out...
Along the way the PCs found some cool items, ritual books, neat treasures, potions and powerful weapons to use in their quest for revenge.
