Vincent Nguyen.jpg

Name: Vincent Nguyen
Gender: Cisgender male
Age: 20 years
Scion Type: Incarnation
Parent: Sun Wukong
Pantheon: The Shen of China
Level: Pre-Visitation
Appearance and Demeanor: Vincent is an attractive, physically fit young Asian man. He favors flamboyant hairstyles and clothing. He generally has a sunny, out-going disposition. Whenever someone gets angry with him for breaking the rules (which he frequently does), he reacts with genuine bafflement—he doesn’t understand why other people get caught up in things like that. He also has unshakeable self-confidence, never doubting himself, however much he is challenged by others.

Paths

  • Origin: Virtuous Problem Child: Vincent’s parents were Vietnamese immigrants to the US and he grew up in a tight-knit immigrant community. As a child, Vincent drove his parents, teachers, and the school’s guidance counselor to distraction. He was a good-natured child who was cheerful and liked helping others—but always ignored the rules and never understood why people got upset at him for doing so. He would break into places he wasn’t supposed to go—because he was curious to see what was inside. He would be late to school—because he was helping someone look for a lost pet. He would blow off doing his homework—because he was at the local Buddhist temple listening to a dharma talk by the monk or because he was helping out at the local soup kitchen. He would get into fights at school—because he always stood up to the bullies picking on other kids. And he had an uncanny knack for talking himself out of trouble.
    • Group connections: The Vietnamese immigrant community, Buddhist temples and charities
    • Contact connection: Buddhist charity executive director
    • Access connection: Vietnamese cultural center
  • Role: Thrill-Seeking Martial Artist: From a young age, Vincent took martial arts and parkour lessons and exceled at them. He is now a world-class mixed martial arts fighter. He also runs his own martial arts and parkour school, teaching others the skills he is best at. As part of this, he runs free self-defense classes for anyone in the community. He is also always seeking new thrills, ranging from sky-diving to extreme sports. He maintains a YouTube channel, where he posts recordings of his adventures and discusses the martial arts. He also uses the channel to encourage his followers to get their thrills naturally and avoid drugs; to encourage them to meditate to clear their minds; and to raise money for various charities.
    • Group connections: The martial arts community, YouTube followers
    • Contact connection: Vincent’s childhood martial arts teacher
    • Access connection: Vincent’s martial arts school
  • Pantheon: Sun Wukong Incarnate: From a young age, ever since he saw a children’s show based on The Journey to the West, Vincent has been fascinated with the character of Sun Wukong. Vincent even dreams sometimes of being Sun Wukong. This has helped draw him to regularly attend services at his community’s Buddhist temple and get involved with Chinese folk religion. Vincent doesn’t realize it yet, but he is fact an aspect of Sun Wukong. There is a long history of buddhas and bodhisattvas incarnating in the world to help others. Sun Wukong figured, if Guanyin can do it, why can’t he? Plus, he was curious about what it would be like to grow up human in the modern world. Of course, if a member of the Shen wants to do something like this, they must ask permission, fill out various forms, and have their request approved. And, of course, Suk Wukong didn’t bother with any of this. Since when has Sun Wukong asked anyone’s permission to do anything?
    • Group connections: Buddhist and Chinese folk religion temples
    • Contact connection: A Buddhist monk who acts as a mentor to Vincent
    • Access connection: A Buddhist retreat center

  • Epic Strength (Ruyi Jingu Bang): You have +1 Scale for purposes of lifting, breaking, or carrying large objects. You can use Might in place of Presence for intimidation, seduction, or building Bonds of camaraderie.
