Sem are a race of reptilian humanoids, resembling slender, bipedal lizards. They are covered in thin scales that range in color from a dark maroon to a light pink. They are thin-bodied, rarely exceeding 5’ 6” in height, with tails that can reach four feet in length.

Like Terran geckos, sem lack eyelids, and lick their own eyes to keep them clean; they do this reflexively and unconsciously, but other species may find this off-putting. Also like geckos, they are adept climbers; sem architecture often lacks stairs or ladders, as the sem can walk quite casually on vertical surfaces, and can even move across ceilings with care.

Sem as a race are psionically active; all sem have a sort of subconscious foresight that allows them to react to danger slightly before their physical senses should be aware of it. This is what grants sem their superior dodging and parrying ability; they are already moving to dodge or block a blow before it’s in motion. Some sem, especially those of the upper castes, receive advanced training to expand their psychic gifts; they refer to this as the Way of the Crystal Egg. As this is simply a refinement of their natural abilities, sem do not see psionics as unusual, any more than any other high degree of skill.

Sem fighting styles emphasize grace and speed; they prefer light weapons and no armor. Ceremonial duals are fought with slender metal wands, and the first to land a blow is considered the victor. More serious matters are settled with a dueling claw, a broad crystalline blade with an H-shaped handle

Sem believe that the universe as a whole was originally the Divine Egg; it was not laid by any greater entity, but simply willed itself into existence. The Egg then hatched, thus creating the universe as it is known today; stars are said to be fragments of the Eggshell. Thus, all that lives are part of the Divine Egg. Sem believe that someday, all living beings will come together and the Egg will be reunified.
