History

  • Born in the mountainous regions north of Avalon in the small fief of Bryn. Son of Sir Tarqual of Bryn and his Lady Louisa. An only child. Raised iin the mountains working to make hte small fief profitable despite the frequent absences of his father.
  • Page to the Court of Avalon at 8 to 10.
  • Squired to Sir Gawail at 14.
  • Knighted at 18.
  • while extraordinarily strong, with a solid understanding of warfare and nearly endless endurance, he was taciturn, and kept his own counsel, never engaging in the petty squabbles of the senior knights. In time his age was notable but he still stayed clear of the more political knights.
  • Scrupulously clean, a habit that earned him some mocking but nothing harsh since he was known to settle insults quickly and directly.
  • Avoids bloodshed if at all possible but has not qualms about slaying a foe in open combat. While he has from time to time participated in chivalric games his entrance into such lists is a rarity. Usually quiet, he rarely boasts or brags. Yet he will not be abused by those that think themselves his better without good reason.
  • Plays the flute. Rarely plays it in a performance setting unless specifically called upon to do so and the setting is appropriate. Yet often plays in the warcamps and at the fires of sergeants and men at arms. His fraternization with the lower classes my be looked down on but he genuinely enjoys their company. Never plays in taverns or drinking halls unless it is appropriate.
  • Enjoys gardening and raising food, a hobby that some knights might mock him for but coming from a hardscrabble fief its a skill he has long tended. He is often seen eating carrots, apples, and other easy to carry foods.
  • Fond of horses and training horses for the plow and for the warfield. is considered a good judge of horse flesh.
  • Often found sleeping. Says that his father told him a wise man sleeps as much as possible against the times when sleep can not be had.

Game

An Arthurian-flavour game set in Corwin's Avalon (yes, the Shadow that was destroyed...) after Corwin leaves it.

Character & Player Instructions 75 points, no Pattern or Logrus, no exalted powers, no constructs. The Characters have no knowledge of the universe outside Avalon, have never heard of Amber, and to them the term Shadow would probably mean an evil ghost. Stuff is limited to + or - 10, and doomed Arthurian attitudes strongly encouraged.

An extra 5 points for getting me an acceptable character at or before Wednesday the 4th of November 8.00 AM UTC.

I'm setting up a website with background info at https://moonlight-and-roses.obsidianportal.com/ (no player login is needed).

This is a cooperative game, characters will know one another and can at least work together.

I've run (a version of) this game before at AmberCon UK 1999 when it was titled 'Moonshine and Roses,' as 'Moonlight and Roses' in the Netherlands in 2001, and have run a prequel of sorts ('Shade and Cool Waters') at AmberCon UK 2003. Emma Sansone has run a game inspired by this (and we shared some notes) at GiocaModena and at ACNW 2000 and ACNW 2001. More recently, I've run this game at the online Tir-na nog'th convention in July 2020.

This is a re-run, not a continuation. Sir Samlet Bryn
