Backstory[edit]

Origin Phase: Way too ambitious for her own good, a graduate student in neurology named Amery Rake declared she would develop the beginnings of a working scientific theory of how to predict the capabilities of a particular form of magic based on cultural background, even to classify what style it was based on observation. However, she did not have the necessary background in the soft sciences to even begin to develop a good classification system - unwilling to admit her project was beyond her, she made herself one of her subjects, and summoned the Envy demon Duke Bune to give her a working knowledge of infernal mystical technology to complete her thesis. He did so - and exposed her to all the knowledge of how the developed it, what it was used for, and spread several examples of it across the world as part of a "distinct interpretation" of how to properly teach her through examples. Having seen where this desire led to, and horrified by having brought examples of the most horrific form of weapons to the world, vowing to herself to use this new knowledge to stop humanity going down the same path - hence her title, the part of the Lesser Key of Solomon that leads to communion with angels.

Phase 1: Of course, when it comes down to it, Dr. Rake is a somewhat mousy and weedy scientist who habitually wears glasses out of an inferiority complex about her intelligence rather than corrective lenses. So, to track down the infernal devices, she needed one of her own to protect herself. Her experience in neurology helped, however - as did her access to the biology department. She was able to use her newfound knowledge of hellish biomechanicals to grow herself a suit of armor to use as a medium by which to track down the products of her deal - and fight crime as well, given how she was already on a particular path.

Phase 2: The first day of her superheroic career was... ambivalent. Issue with using Hellish tech is that it looks Hellish, and some other capes on the scene honestly thought she was an escaped tank-born monster of the villain whose career she had helped launch when a thing called a "growth nexus" landed next to a rather megalomaniacal nerd with a thing for "Killer DMing". However, her actively fighting off one cape to uncover a civilian that her sensors noticed was stuck under a bit of fallen debris before anyone else did convinced the rest that she was, at least, not hostile. This eventually led her to meeting the Guardians, and joining up as a magic and technology specialist.

Phase 3: As time progressed, she developed a reputation as a creepy and laconic but helpful figure. There are two reasons for this; one is to hide how much of her rogues gallery was caused by her own ego, more or less. The second is that she has become actually successful from her deal - the thesis was a major hit and resulted in her landing a job at a well-funded laboratory dedicated to fringe sciences, a support of the Guardians and her secret identity - with attendant paycheck. As a result, she wishes to keep her "secret identity" as quiet as possible, as she feels she should hide that she isn't just a woman in some badass armor, but has quite a bit of stuff to draw on when making unique devices and sometimes even servant automatons - most people who know her expect her to be cagey and distant, so people don't look all that closely at her "personal projects" if the price isn't too high.

Habitual Biomodder
Thanks to her constant tinkering to her suit for maximum efficiency, Almadel has two extra slots in Gadgetry as it applies to her suit.
Sufficiently Analyzed Sorcery
Almadel has a +2 bonus to Occult rolls to examine, reverse-engineer, or construct demonic magitechnology.
Kaiju Armor

First Aider
By spending a Fate point, Almadel may treat a minor and moderate consequences currently healing with medicine as it was a grade lower for time, minor are healed instantly, moderate at the end of a scene.
Academic
Once per scene Almadel spend a fate point (and a few minutes of observation) to make a special Science roll representing a flash of insight. For each shift she makes on this roll she discovers or creates an aspect related to Science, on either the scene or the target of her observations, though you may only invoke one of them for free.

Story[edit]

Origin Issue[edit]

Way too ambitious for her own good, a graduate student in neurology named Amery Rake declared she would develop the beginnings of a working scientific theory of how to predict the capabilities of a particular form of magic based on cultural background, even to classify what style it was based on observation.

Aspect: Infernally-Tutored Mad Scientist

Issue One[edit]

Of course, when it comes down to it, Dr.

Aspect: Will Not Let Anyone Suffer For Her Mistakes

Issue Two[edit]

The first day of her superheroic career was...

Aspect: Provisional Guardian

Issue Three[edit]

As time progressed, she developed a reputation as a creepy and laconic but helpful figure.

Aspect: Well-Funded and Discreet
