Back to Miscellaneous Setting Information

As a whole, the technological level of the Avatar's World is somewhat superior to our own. There are several reasons to this. Firstly, the existence of mutations and rare bits of alien technology has often provided leads for scientists and inventors. Secondly, the very existence of superheroes has had long-terms effects on culture, causing it to further encourage individuals to break out of the mold and achieve the extraordinary; in science, this has led to the emergence of numerous "mad scientists", both criminal and benign.

While the technological level available to the public is high, certain organizations have access to even more advanced technology:

  • Shadow, in no small part through its extensive espionage network, has access to a deadly repertoire of gadgets, including a large array of anti-metahuman weaponry. Shadow also possesses some of the best phasing technology in the world.
  • Even more advanced than Shadow, Omnicorp is a world leader in terms of technology. This is due in part to Omnicorp's impressive R&D branch, and in part to the Gashren technology that they have been reverse-engineering ever since Garzor's second attack.

Omnicorp is the world's sole provider of omni-metal, and the power plant with which they provide Megalopolis's energy is a solid enough proof of concept that they've been commissioned to build other such plants in several major cities. They also create impressive military technology; the Omnicorp Mecha-Tanks are sold to the US Army at a billion dollar apiece, and have proven themselves in the field.

  • It is difficult to peg the level of technology available to The Cryosphere. It is clearly very advanced, benefiting from the resources gathered by thousands of villains across the globe in addition to Professor Cryo's own inventions. It is known that the Cryosphere has access to teleportation technology (in all likelihood courtesy of Gatemaster), and that Cryo's personal force-field drains the energy out of any attack aimed at him.
  • Little is known about the Gashren, but the technology they have displayed to date has been extremely impressive. Garzor's battleships have approached the speed of light, and the weaponry used by his soldiers was enough to give the Global Champions difficult fights.
  • The only human group whose technology can compete with the Gashren's is Venture Industries. With Venture City's culture of "extreme science", and its strong concentration of mad scientists (in particular Dr. Darien himself), the company has achieved levels of technology beyond even Omnicorp, their chief rival. Among other things, Venture Industries produce medical nanotechnology, carbosteel, and prototypical inter-dimensional portals.
  • Far beyond everyone else, Madman's technology appears to make him practically omnipotent. To date, the only person who seems to (barely) understand the principles behind it has been Dexter Darien.
