A public charge from infancy, Slide grew up in group homes, with long stretches of homelessness and numerous run-ins with law enforcement. Case workers described them as "cold" and "uncommunicative." Peers and teachers appreciated them for their competitiveness and intellect, but they had few chances to make lasting friendships as a child, and this shows in their stunted interpersonal skills. Referred for psychiatric evaluation on multiple occasions due to violent outbursts and difficulties communicating. No apparent loyalty to any person, creed, or ideology other than their own security.

Caught the attention of the CIA as an information technology student at a trade school in Massachusetts. Was recruited and trained for cyber warfare, but it became clear during training that their "unusual wiring" made them a decisive killer, too. Slide has a rare willingness to do violence, and can maintain focus during chaotic scenarios. ("Sometimes the fastest way to break a password is to stab somebody.")

Slide’s final mission for the CIA was to infiltrate Exqui-Site, an underworld datacenter outside Montreal. The team gathered intelligence for weeks, but a surprise nighttime raid on their safehouse wiped them out. Only Slide was absent on the night of the raid. They were discovered breaking into Exqui-Site CTO Cyrus Nouri's personal safe, rumored to hold the datacenter's private encryption keys and a fortune in cryptocurrency. Nouri's security team left Slide greivously wounded, but failed to capture them or recover the contents of the safe.

Slide blames Nouri and CIA leadership for the disaster, but is otherwise tight-lipped about the operation. After escaping on a late-night subway train, Slide slipped their CIA handlers, dropped off the map, and re-emerged months later as a freelancer.
