Identity

Hero Name: Copycat

Real Name: Hana 'Hannah' Ishikawa

Look: Woman, Asian, boring clothing, iconic costume, character mask

Abilities

Heightened physical abilities, energy absorption, substance mimicry:

Copycat is capable of absorbing ki from her surroundings, drawing power into herself, manipulating energy and mimicking the elements around her.

Labels

Danger Freak Savior Superior Mundane
Starting =0 =0 =0 =0 +3
Current =0 =0 =0 +1 +2

Moves

The Mask: You wear a mask and hide your real identity. Once per session, you can affirm either your heroic or secret identity to switch your Mundane with your Saviour. When you reveal your secret identity to someone who didn’t know it already, mark potential.

Game face: When you commit yourself to save someone or defeat a terrible enemy, mark a condition and take +1 ongoing to all rolls in direct pursuit of that goal. At the end of any scene in which you don’t make progress towards that goal, mark a condition. When you fulfil your goal, mark potential.

I am what you see: When you spend time talking to someone about your identity, you can ask them which Label they want to impose on you; their player will tell you honestly. If you accept what they tell you, take +1 forward and either mark potential or clear a condition.

Backstory

When did you first put on the mask? Why?

After stopping the apartment fire, Hana needed a disguise to flee the scene without being recognised. The mask and robe came from her grandmother, who had them in storage as a keepsake of her homeland.

Why do you keep a secret identity?

Because Copycat's traditionalist and protective parents would never allow her to be a superhero if they knew about it.

Who, outside of the team, knows about your dual identity?

Just Copycat's grandmother, who was rather more adventurous in her youth than she lets on.

Who thinks the worst of your masked identity?

Stormcloud, an older Chinese superhero who uses qi as an extension of his discipline and martial arts. He considers Copycat reckless and lacking in discipline, and thinks she needs his training.

Why do you care about the team?

Because they're Hellion's friends, and because they don't judge her on who they expect her to be.

Relationships

Hellion knew Copycat from her civilian life first.

Copycat refused to tell Melody her secret identity when they asked.

Influence

Hellion, Trigger and Haspa have Influence over Copycat.

Secret Identity

Schoolwork: Hana is a high-school student at Green Willow Academy, and has all the issues of juggling her superhero life with her school life. Disappearing in the middle of the day is difficult, but any time spent patrolling at night is time not spent doing homework or sleeping. Let alone problems like her costume being discovered or her uniform getting damaged.

Little sister: Mei (May) is in middle-school, and is at that obnoxious age of asking a lot of questions, especially about Hana's life and (complete lack of a) boyfriend. She's annoyingly smart and observant, has many friends, and Hana usually has to take care of her while her parents are at work.

Best friend: Zainab (Zee) Iqbal is a superhero blogger, which means she has a higher-than-average chance of getting caught up in supervillain heists and falling into traps. Let alone trying to get interviews with superheroes and unknowingly offering up criticism of the New Disasters' antics.

When time passes, roll +Mundane to see how you’re managing your obligations. On a hit, things are going pretty well; you have an opportunity or advantage thanks to one of your obligations. On a 7-9, you’ve lapsed on one obligation, your choice. On a miss, you haven’t given your normal life anywhere near the attention it deserves; the GM chooses two obligations that are going to bite you.

Team Moves

When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, ask them if they see you as the person wearing the mask or the person underneath. If the former, mark potential and clear a condition. If the latter, take Influence over them if you reveal yourself.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, tell them a secret about who you really are. Give them Influence, and shift your Mundane up and your mask’s Label down.

Moment of Truth

The mask is a lie, and some piece of you has always known that. Doesn’t matter if others can see it. You’re the one that can do the impossible. Mask off. Costume on. And you’re going to save the damn day. Of course, you better hope nobody nasty is watching...
