Background[edit]

Lieutenant Tholov is the Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Eclipse. The unofficial nickname – “Dr Ice” – whispered amongst the ensigns and enlisted crew in his department is not just a reference to his Andorian physiology. He can be as coldly logical as a Vulcan, and has little time for vagueness or emotional hysterics. A veteran of the Andorian Imperial Guard, his background is as a military analyst. He is deeply mistrustful of other species (except a small few – and even then still harbours some feelings of superiority).

He views his job on board the Eclipse as having but one priority; reporting to the Captain on the threat profiles of new scientific phenomena - including alien species - to help form strategy. When a new species is discovered, he wants to know its military capabilities and weaknesses. He is not interested in how their system of writing names in both visual and aromatic forms might create charming multi-sensual inflections.

He therefore hates Kimi.

Her gushing reports drive him nuts. He is not sure why she was recruited straight out of the academy and suspects her interesting achievements so far were flukes. But he has a duty to use the tools in his department, and it is true she appears to have that spark of insight that allows her to make those sometimes seemingly illogical deductions, and so a useful investigation away-team member. But she needs to toughen up if she is going to be a success on the Eclipse’ rather unique mission. He is determined to make that happen.
