Weathering

He was just an average Joe, working the high steel erecting buildings. Life was going well and without incident till his sister decided to look into the family genealogy, trying to build a family tree.

She traced the family back to old England, the records only enabled her to go back to the 1600's, to go farther someone would have to go there and do some personal investigation. She had three kids to raise, and he was between builds. He caught the flight want to Britain.

He was met at the airport by a man that claimed to be working on the genealogy of his familiy. The man said that there was "personal effects" from a lost relative that needed to be pasted on to an heir. He was elated, he had come to do some research for his sister and ended up inheriting something.

The man presented him with a small box, in the box was a ring. "This is what has to be passed onto you, there are no there effects" the man then left without saying another word. The ring was a little gaudy for him, but it was well crafted. He would take it to an appraiser later, but for now it looked like he would have to go do some research, like he told his sister.

It was so anti-climactic with the man at the airport, that he forgot about taking the ring to an appraiser.

He was sitting in the records hall, going over marriage papers, when that ring, that was in his pocket, got his attention. It was digging into his leg. He took it out of his pocket and looked at it. It was too large to keep in his pocket and it did have a curtain .... style about it. He slid it on his finger.

The ring told him that it had been waiting for him to find it, and explained all that it could do. It had belonged to a weather mage and had been lost for so long, but now it was back with its rightful owner. He took the name Weathering and now serves in the Night Watch.
