"What is it this time?"

High Concept

On Trouble's Speed Dial: Trouble has a way of finding you. Whether it's some magical creature attacking the students, a lost magical artifact, or even just an upcoming Quidditch match, you'll probably be there. Sometimes you are dragged into the fray, such as the magical creature attacking you. Other times someone nearby gets pulled in where you can see them, in which case you'll make it your problem.

Invoke: Invoke when drawing experience from previous troubles.​ Invoke when drawing help from those you have helped before.
Compel: Compel when some sort of new trouble pops up. Compel when you reflecively help others with their troubles.
This aspect sums up your character in a short, punchy phrase, such as The Boy Who Lived, Smartest Girl In The Room or Working Class Wizard.

School Aspect

A Gryffindor Prefect, Somehow: You've been named a prefect for your House. You are... not sure that you are a good choice for this. You've said as much to the Head of Gryffindor, but they insisted so here you are now. Juggling your prefect duties with everything else that's happening is going to be rough, but you'll try your best. You promised that much at least.

Invoke: Invoke when using your knowledge or authority as a prefect. Invoke when you give your all in your duties.
Compel: Compel when your duties interfere with your activities. Compel when your prefect status puts you to a higher standard.
This sums up not just what house or school your character is, but your relationship to it, such as Reluctant Slytherin or World Famous Beauxbaton Duelist. 

Note: Our story takes place at Hogwarts, but characters may be returning Hogwarts students or may be there on exchange from another wizarding school. Exchange students will still be sorted into one of the four Hogwarts' Houses for the year.

Wizarding World Aspects

Between Two Worlds: You've been brought up as part of both the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds. Your father was a Muggle while your mother was a Wizard. You lived in a house filled with potion ingredients and advanced (for the time, at least) electronics. Your allowance came in both paper money and gold galleons. Your family trips make use of Portkeys as much as they used airplanes. Etc, you get the picture.

Invoke: Invoke when using your unique perspective to make creative solutions. Invoke when using muggle items or concepts.
Compel: Compel when your strange upbringing alienates you.


Mommy's Little Alchemist: Your mother is well versed in potion-making, enough to make a living out of it. She taught you everything you know about potion-making, which is a lot. You know how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death... or at least that's what your mom said.

Invoke: Invoke when making potions to solve a problem. Invoke when identifying potions and their effects.
Compel: Compel when your potions go wrong.
Each Wizarding World Aspect represents the most noteworthy thing that happened to your character in a previous year. They can lean positive, like, Named Head Boy or they could lean negative like, Lost The Big Quidditch Match Singlehandedly. Even something like My Mother Was A Deatheater can be used for good invokes and compels. First year students should start with one aspect, while returning students should start with 2. 

As returning students, you will each be starting with two Wizarding World Aspects.

Approaches are Careful, Clever, Flashy, Forceful, Quick, and Sneaky. Set one at +3, two at +2, two at +1, and one at +0.

Wand

Wood: Alder | Core: Phoenix Feather | Flexibility: Unyielding

Like a Leaf Dancing In the Wind:

Alder wood wands are best suited for non-verbal spellcasting, though you're not as good at silent spells as you are at verbal ones. When using this wand, you gain a +2 bonus to Sneakily cast spells to create an advantage.
Each wand starts with one free stunt. Stunt should be (loosely) relative to the wand's Wood, Core, and Flexibility (see section on Wands on the main wikipage for details).

Pet Name: Description

The Wise Old Hunting Owl:

Your family owl is old. Like, really old. You're pretty sure owls are not supposed to live as long as this guy has. He's really good at his job, good enough to hunt people down anyway. Once per game session, you may ask your owl to find or deliver a message to someone you know. You're not sure how the old owl can find them, he just does.
Your pet or familiar gets one free stunt appropriate to the type of animal.

Character Stunts

Crazy Enough to Work:

You are proficient at improvising your way through trouble. Once per game session, you can use Clever in place of any other approach.

Mysteries of the School:

After years of getting caught up in Hogwarts' various mysteries and rumors, you've become familiar with the wizarding school. You gain a +2 bonus to Cleverly overcome an obstacle that involves Hogwarts castle or its history.

The Potion Maker's Journal:

Your mother gave your her journal, her compiled knowledge of both potion-making and potion ingredients. Including how to gather or substitute certain reagents. This grants a +2 bonus to Carefully overcome an obstacle that prevents you from creating or using a potion (usually, a lack of ingredients or allergies).
Each character starts with three free stunts and may buy up to two more in exchange for refresh on a point to point basis.

Character Background

Lance is a half-blood. His mother is an accomplished potion-maker, while his father is capitalizing on the advent of computers. His parents gave him an interesting upbringing, living half as a muggle and half as a wizard. He was taught quite a bit by his parents, making him familiar with both potions and electronics. For a time, it was actually in contention whether he was going to study at Hogwarts or a muggle boarding school but eventually, it was decided that he would go to the Wizarding school.

When he was young, he would get into all sorts of trouble, a trend that continues to this day. Most of the time, the trouble seems to seek him out rather than the other way around, so he wasn't a troublemaker per se, though it made little difference to most people.

His first two years at Hogwarts did not change this. Arguably, it just made things worse. It seemed like something would get him into trouble once every few weeks, whether its some lost magical artifact, some magical creature that tries to attack him, or even just one of his Housemates dragging him into their problems. He mostly got through it using potions and some ingenuity.

After Dumbledore died and Death Eaters took over the schools, he was almost pulled out by his parents. They knew his tendency to get into trouble and was unwilling to risk him in such an environment. Unfortunately, both the bureaucracy of Hogwarts and Lance's own unwillingness to abandon his friends ensured that he stayed there till the end of the year.

During the Battle of Hogwarts, he was mostly concerned with protecting the younger students rather than dueling Death Eaters, though there was a fair bit of that as well.

In addition to whatever description you choose to put here, your character's background should endeavor to answer the following questions:

What was I doing during the Battle of Hogwarts (two years prior)? Were you at the school at all? Did you participate? What side of the conflict were you on?

What was my focus before the battle? What were your favorite classes/things to learn? What did you see yourself doing after school was finally over?

What is my focus in the aftermath of the battle? It has been two years since the battle. How did it change or temper your answers to the question above? How has it affected how you move forward as a witch or wizard?

Who are my parents/guardians, and what (if any) is their place in the wizarding world? Are you pureblood, *mudblood, or are the details of your ancestry uncertain? Is either of your parents muggleborn? Both? Is their knowledge of the wizarding world a new thing or something they're steeped in? Or have they been made to forget?

*Note: This pejorative term is now officially designated as hate speech and strictly not tolerated in the school.

Extra Curricular Classes

Lance used to take Muggle Studies and Divination in his first two years, but after everything that has happened, he decided to start taking Arithmancy instead of Muggle Studies.

Choose two classes beyond the Core Curriculum from the following list: Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Muggle Studies, Study of Ancient Runes.

Note: You can also make up an extra-curricular class of your own devising if you prefer and we'll say it's a thing this year.
