Malcolm Shaw

Malcolm Shaw.jpg

"Character Quote"

High Concept

"Incessant Spotlight Summoner"

A true Ravenclaw, Malcolm is clever, intelligent, and thoughtful. He is most known for his natural tendency (or need) to be in the spotlight. His mother, Olivia Shaw, is one of Britain's Delegates to the International Confederation of Wizards, and he was forced to learn how to deal with important people and large crowds at a young age because his father wanted Malcolm to grow up and follow in his footsteps. Since his father was often very busy or on travel, part of Malcolm's attention seeking behavior was an attempt to get his father to notice him.

Sports were one of the ways he's made a name for himself at Hogwarts. He's a Chaser on the House Quiddich team... his flashy moves draw a lot of defenders, and cheers from the crowd, letting the other Chasers score most of the points. He also became a duelist because he gets to be the center of attention.

School Aspect

"Ravenclaw's Reluctant Thunderbird"

Delegate Olivia Shaw saw the writing on the wall after Dumbledore's death. She pulled some strings and had her son Donovan transferred to Ilvermorny the following year, she had plenty of connections after working with the ICW for years in America.

Malcolm fought her on it of course, but with her son's life on the line, Olivia wasn't taking any chances.

And so Malcolm joined Ilvermorny and became a member of their Thunderbird House. He sent letters as much as he could to Cho, Luna, Hekate and other Ravenclaws, so he was aware of most of what happened during that year. He was able to send what support he could through the mail... potion ingredients... research from Ilvermorny's library... but overall he felt powerless.

Then everything went quiet and he feared the worst. He tried running away a few times to get back to Hogwarts, but Ilvermonry's security was tight... and they were paying special attention to the exchange students that were attending school there.

He felt ashamed when he returned the next year leading him to overcompensate for his absence... but this undoubtedly contributed to the feeling of him doing and being involved in too much.

Wizarding World Aspects

"Star, Captain, and Prefect" Ever since coming back in his 4th year, Malcolm has done everything he can to make up for the fact that he was cone the previous year. Though seldom spoken out loud, he feels as if he is constantly being judged for being gone during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Through his position and reputation, Malcolm has amassed a significant amount of influence within the school. He can use that to get his advantage... but all of that authority comes with a commiserate amount of responsibility...

Aspect Name Brief description of Aspect

Invoke: Example of when this aspect might be invoked
Compel: Example of when this aspect might be compelled
Each Wizarding World Aspect represents the most noteworthy thing that happened to your character in a previous year. They can lean positive, like, Named Head Boy or they could lean negative like, Lost The Big Quidditch Match Singlehandedly. Even something like My Mother Was A Deatheater can be used for good invokes and compels. First year students should start with one aspect, while returning students should start with 2.

Wand

Wood: Applewood | Core: Thunderbird Tail Feather | Length/Flexibility: A foot long, firm but flexible

Quick Curse:

+2 to Quickly Attack a person or creature when your life is in danger.
  • Wands with Thunderbird tail feather cores, like the birds the feathers are taken from, are able to sense danger and can cast curses on their own. Wands with Thunderbird tail feather cores have been known to fire curses pre-emptively when supernatural dangers are present.
  • Applewood wands are not made in great numbers. They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic.
  • Wolfe wants are especially sought after by practitioners of Transfiguration.

Pet/Familiar

Pet Name: Waif (really Wayfinder, but she said 'waif' was prettier)

During his year as an exchange student at Ilvermorny, Malcolm had the opportunity to perform familiar summoning ritual. He thought he'd get something impressive or fearsome, but instead ended up with a Fairy.

As vain as her European counterparts, Waif is great at finding things, people and places... when she an be bothered to help, that is. Donovan ends up bringing shiny trinkets and flowers back to his room on a regular basis, which many of the other Ravenclaw boys tease him about.

She understands English, for the most part... and when it suits her, but communicates via humming and chiming sounds.

Finder of Things:

+2 to Overcome when Waif helps Donovan location something or someone.

Character Background

In addition to whatever description you choose to put here, your character's background should endeavor to answer the following questions:

What was I doing during the Battle of Hogwarts (two years prior)? Were you at the school at all? Did you participate? What side of the conflict were you on?

What was my focus before the battle? What were your favorite classes/things to learn? What did you see yourself doing after school was finally over?

What is my focus in the aftermath of the battle? It has been two years since the battle. How did it change or temper your answers to the question above? How has it affected how you move forward as a witch or wizard?

Who are my parents/guardians, and what (if any) is their place in the wizarding world? Are you pureblood, *mudblood, or are the details of your ancestry uncertain? Is either of your parents muggleborn? Both? Is their knowledge of the wizarding world a new thing or something they're steeped in? Or have they been made to forget?

*Note: This pejorative term is now officially designated as hate speech and strictly not tolerated in the school.
