BACKGROUND[edit]

Zara's mutation allows her - with intense concentration - to control her body's interaction with gravity. Essentially, she can become weightless (or degrees toward this). She is also a trained Olympic-standard gymnast, and these skills interact to give her superhuman agility and speed, able to bounce around between walls and buildings like Spider-Man. She can also create localized increased gravity fields to load her kicks and punches - able to (literally) punch above her weight.

Zara was born in China and inducted into the Olympic gymnastics training programme as a child. Her mutation was discovered and she was plucked out by a covert Chinese government agency. There she was given martial arts training (the nature of her powers means she cannot really carry heavy weapons), and trained in stealth and infiltration techniques. She was sent to USA to enroll at Columbia University as a cover. By day she was a shy foreign student, by night she was breaking into high-security facilities and stealing industrial secrets to send back to the motherland. She became enchanted by the freedoms and culture of America - and also discovered surveillance files of Chinese government atrocities in her home province, denting her loyalty.

Then one day she was caught by none other than the Spider-Man, while stealing formulae from Oscorp. Zara had evaded security and law enforcement many times before this, leaving only blurred CCTV images as a lead, but Spider-Man was able to trap her and leave her strung up in webs for the police to apprehend. She was immediately placed into maximum security.

Her handler, realizing this was an opportunity to dispose of the troublesome asset, outed Zara to the US authorities in an exchange deal to protect a powerful Chinese diplomat caught spying. He told the Americans she was a rogue agent no longer working for China. She suffered enhanced interrogation and found herself an abused and abandoned tool of her homeland...

She came to the notice of SHIELD, who stepped in with an offer of recruitment. Disillusioned with her former life, and with a belief that what they were doing was right for the world, Zara switched her loyalty to the new cause and feels morally indebted, which motivates her to prove herself, both to SHIELD and Spider-Man...
