The idea of Eclipse started, as many Black Crane students did, with the Naruto manga and anime. The character Hatake Kakashi has an eye with a special ability, although he was not born with it. Rather it was surgecally implanted in him to replace a lost eye. When it became clear that Nihao Honey would feature two seperate but related families that both had special eyes it all clicked into place: there had to be a character who had both.
