It’s Mama. Business is picking up. We’ve used our downtime on Beaumonde to refit some of our cabins to 1st class accommodations. The work reminded me of the remodel I’d done for the ''Gift'' a couple of years ago, when we were grounded for four months. That was before you came to us, so the improved ''Gift'' is the one you know. Working with ''Equinox'' this time was quite nostalgic—and at times quite frustrating. There is always something that must be jiggered just the right way, because there is always something that is ''just'' not right. It’s the nature of making do. I enjoy the challenge, though, so it only irritates me a little bit. You know how I get.

We booked our first passenger after the refit while on Beaumonde and he admitted couldn’t pay for his passage entirely out of pocket. He talked it over with us and we agreed to let him work off the balance as a deck hand. He needed to go to the Core, which is quite far from Beaumonde, so he worked as a deck hand for quite a while. He’s not terribly good at it, but he does it, and that’s all that’s needed most of the time.

Please let Papa know that we may have some work coming our way, recurring on an as-needed basis. I’m sure Nika’s already sent that news along but in case this letter gets to you first, let him know. It will be good to have some regular work again. I don’t really much like the wait-and-see method of lining up jobs every time we pull into port. For some things, variety is just shiny. For others, I prefer predictability.

Other than that, I really haven’t anything else to report. The Verse is still here and the worlds are still spinning, no matter what people are doing in it. We’re still flying and that’s the important thing. I hope that I will be flying home soon. I miss you and Papa and would love to see you again. Stay good, stay smart, and give Papa a hug from me. And when next you see him, tell Muleskinner I said hello.
