Editing Magical Library

[[The Wilderlands of Absalom]]

Spellbooks add value to a mage's library as follows: Common spells (those within the Core and Player's Companion) are worth 150 gp per level. Uncommon or rare spells (i.e. ones not appearing in those two books) are worth 250 gp per level. Spells on scrolls are worth 75 gp per level (for Common) and 150 per level (for uncommon). Since each mage casts slightly different versions of the same spell the value for similar spells in cumulative. Therefore, a mage with two spellbooks in his library, each containing the spell Sleep would gain 300 gp towards his library.

**It's mostly an accounting ledger of goods procured by the bandits and sold to, presumably, the writer of the ledger, but there are snippets here and there that paint a fuller picture of the writer's life. However, Rabanus is not able to tell if the notes are some elaborate fiction, a deeper code for something entirely else, or the recollections of events far in the past, even though the parchment and ink seems no more than a few years old, at most.
** There are references to a substance called praum, an alchemical substance known colloquially as "godshit" and produced in rare and specific regions around the world. The writer several times refers to the ruined Keep de Chelles, a place Rabanus knows nothing about, and mentions rather derisively a ruling Council in Hob, when the mage knows for a fact that the Salazar family has ruled interrupted in Hob for several Cycles. There are a few throw away references to a place called Pevin, and abandoned buildings within Hob, although that, too, is clearly ludicrous, as Hob is barely large enough to contain its current population, let alone empty warehouses by the docks or dilapidated temples. There was, he thinks, generations ago, a town to the southeast of Hob, near the iron mines, but that place has been abandoned for a hundred years or more and little is left but crumbling stone foundations.


=Research and Ritual Spells=

The chill emanating from the book is cold enough to burn flesh. This is a ritual spell that opens a planar gate to a realm called Leng, a cruel, cold and unforgiving place, inhabited by beings who desire to eat the souls of Men. To the right buyer, it is worth 10k gold, but only holds 500 gp value for the magical library. (LV 500 gp)
*The spellbook of Apaflas Da. It contains the first level spells ''Magic Rope'', ''Wall of Smoke'', ''Summon Dervishes''; the second level spells ''Gust of Wind'', ''Locate Object'', ''Stinking Cloud'', ''Summon Steed''; third level spells ''Earth's Teeth'', ''Summon Winged Steed''; fourth level spell ''Wall of Sand''; fifth level spell ''Conjure Elemental''. It also contains two ritual spells: one binds a familiar, the second binds Lusbecira to the caster's will for seven days. (LV 3900 gp)

*Rabanus finishes decoding the magical formula found in the lair of the Lady of Shadows. It contains detailed instructions for endowing arrows with a modest enchantment. It does not look to be in Ulin's handwriting. *The scroll taken from the demon boar lair turns out to be a short treatise on transfiguration magic. While brief, it seems to deal with theoretical abstracts that could be helpful to any mage attempting to experiment with new spells related to that school of magic. *There are two more books upon the table, one covered in red leather, the other in black. There is no writing upon the one in red leather; the one in black has writing upon the spine in silver threads, but it is in a language that none of the adventurers can read. It says "Journey through the Shadowlands". (LV ?)
*The other scrolls appear to be as follows: a list of names (about thirty, in total), half of which are crossed off, a parchment containing seemingly random doodles of moth-like creatures devouring tiny humans, what looks almost to be a recipe but Hira judges to be a formula for the creation of some sort of enchanted item, and an unlabeled map.
