Background:

Nick Forrester has always had something to prove to the world since his upbringing on a Federation research colony, where his "merely" well above average intelligence left him unable to fully share in the discoveries made by his genius parents. Surrounded by evidence that it was possible for people to master the universe, he vowed that he was going to share in that mastery no matter what it took. His initial plan was to enroll in the Vulcan Science Academy, but he was unable to make the cut. Undaunted, he turned to the next most suitable institution, Starfleet Academy. He swore he would make it through no matter the consequences, which were very nearly disastrous when an attempt to get a leg up on studying with an illicit RNA sequence went awry. Since the sequencing failed, Nick's attempt at cheating was never discovered, but it did permanently cure him of the idea that there was any way to approach a difficult task apart from head on. Nick has risen slowly but steadily through the ranks during his career, with many commendations for bravery under fire, but with few published discoveries to his name. Now in his mid forties, he has just been promoted to the position of Chief Science Officer.
