Eastgrove

A setting for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: the Roleplaying Game

Introduction

This seemingly quiet coastal town in downstate NJ is known for three things: The ailing Washington (shopping) Mall, victim of modern shopping trends; Sunland (name is WiP), the local amusement park that hasn't had a proper update to a ride in at least 15 years; and being just far away enough from anywhere "big" to make getting there and back awkward without a car of your own. The town was originally a port town, but most of the shipping died out with the Great Depression. It didn't help that a large part of the docks burnt down in 1932.

Locations

Clearwater Drive is a residential street

Eastgrove High School moved to its current location in the '60s after outgrowing the previous building. Its starting to outgrow this one, but money for relocating or expanding is proving difficult to raise. The school football (Eastgrove Eagles) and basketball teams gain the most attention from the local populace.

Hamilton College is the local affiliate college, accredited by Rutgers University.

Liberty Harbor harbor at the southern end of town

South Habor is, weirdly, the northern harbor

Suncrest Amusements and Boardwalk stand on what used to be the largest docks in town. With the shipping business falling off after the Walt Street Crash of '29, the area was largely unused when it burnt down in '32. A few years later Suncrest was proposed as a redevelopment, to get locals working on construction and draw in money from nearby. In a severe case of Ship of Theseusing, most of the "original" rides no longer contain any original components from years of repairs and maintenance. Many locals work their first jobs here in the summer season between finishing High School and leaving for college. The haunted house walk through attraction (above the ghost train in a converted warehouse) is currently closed; this is in no way connected to the reports that it is actually haunted (which draw in tv crews every few years). Suncrest attempt to put on a big thing for Pride month, which tends to leave rainbow themed plush toys all over the place from overstocked fairground games.

Suncrest Hotel was built as part of the Amusements, but was sold off separately during one of the Amusements' many changes of ownership.

The Black Cat's Stash is an antique store, second hand book shop and seller of mystic materials. Some of those are even the real thing.

Washington Mall is certainly a place that exists.
