Danielle is actually not a real human being or vampire. She was created from a mix of all the psionic energy wandering around the ship and Michael's blackguard powers, which he inadvertantly used during the heartbreak he is suffering. Only the psions aboard the ship can see her, and she will only appear to non-psions when she wants to.
