Beglan had wandered off to grab breakfast and a coffee and I lingered over the engine room boards double checking everything.  By working flat out for the past two days, he and I had whipped through our monthly maintenance.  Considering the amount left undone due to injury and capture by hostile forces, to say nothing of our hard-partying passengers, the past 48 hours had to be some sort of record for a ship this size. I scanned the boards.  Everything showed green.  I closed my eyes and listened to our girl humming to herself.  Pitch perfect. <br><br>

Aware I’d missed waking with Joshua this morning in my zeal to get a couple of hours in before breakfast, I pushed off the console and made my way forward.  I cut through the machine shop and put my tools away, then used the tiny sink in the corner to clean off my hands. I got the worst of the muck off and went through the lounge for the galley, hoping there’d be some coffee left. <br><br>
