Collune Rahnvalla

Collune and Kyuad sometimes communicate with each other over long distances. How this is accomplished could be difficult.

• Sending a Message
  • Writing materials could be dangerous to be cought with. Some methods to deal with this:
    • illusory script or secret page 3rd level spells. If the messenger were to be captured, this would prevent the message from being read, for a time. The downside is that it detects as an enchantment on the message.
      • symbol of sleep 5th level spell. This could be added to any message to prevent legates, but especially orcs, from capturing the messenger.
      • obscure object 1st level spell. Maximized this spell can last 16 hours (or any multiple of 8 if allowed).
    • shrink item 3rd level spell. Multiple messages could be hidden within a scroll case (even spells) and the case shrunk to 1/16 its size. For a case that's 9 inches long (23 cm), it would become a 1.4 cm long item - about a quarter the size of an asprin. This could be hidden anywhere - in a hollowed fake tooth, up the rectum, in an earring, anywhere. The downside is that at the end of the spell's duration it becomes normal again (this should be very easy to time though) and it still detects as a magic item, or perhaps many.
  • Collune's Seer abilities could allow her some insight as to where Kyuad would be at a certain time. This would allow her to send a package (like some papers with writing on them) with a messenger.
    • sending 5th level spell. This can send a short message to anyone the caster knows, anywhere.
    • lesser geas - 3rd level spell. She could command someone, like a hireling, to take the package to a destination without looking at it. The issue here is the chance of the messenger getting nabbed for travel, and then punished for carrying written materials.
    • animal messenger - 2nd level spell. With Extend Spell's duration improvement, it would last 2 days per caster level (so, at least a week). With a small message affixed to a creature like a hawk, this would be a very reliable method of getting the message out, as long as Kyuad is within about 1000 miles of Collune (migratory birds can travel about 800-900 miles in a week). The downside is that the enchantment active on the bird might be detected by an astirax or negated by a mirror, and if either happens the chance of this method failing completely is high.
