'''Concept''': Vigilante Teacher

Gabriel Cordova is tired of watching his students fall by the wayside -- abandoned by an educational system that grows more and more jaded with each passing year and succumbs to corruption in the shadow of Las Vegas' vice. He is tired of watching as would-be novelists drop out and settle for the business of drug trafficking simply because their families were too poor to support them. He is tired of seeing prospective actresses ply their wares on greasy poles in dimly-lit clubs just because funding for the drama department was appropriated to pay for the Vice Principal's new sports car.

But most of all, he is tired of watching helplessly as his students continue to be victimized by a city that feeds on innocence.

Mr. Cordova is an overworked high school teacher in a city known more for its gambling and prostitution than for its scholastic achievers. Once he believed that he could change things by becoming an educator, but fifteen years in the system has made him bitter and desperate for an alternative. He hasn't given up on his students -- on the contrary, he is even more serious now about their futures than ever before. He knows, however, that something must change.

Gabe works double duty teaching Science and Metal Shop. He is popular among most students for being a friendly and honest mentor, but he rankles the hides of many school administrators with his incessant meddling. Recently, however, Gabe's investigations drew the attention of a different type of leech. A vampire with no small amount of pull and investments in the board of education decided that this troublesome teacher had stepped on his toes quite enough.

Gabe was at the faculty office late the evening that the bloodsucker decided to pay him a visit. He'd assumed that the lowly educator would be easy to silence. Strangely, Gabe's mind was difficult to sway and he proved equally resistant to intimidation. When the vampire resorted to simply trying to kill the resilient bastard, he found himself fighting for his unlife. Bruised and bloodied, Gabe led his monstrous assailant through the school hallways, using every object that wasn't nailed down as a weapon to try and keep him off his tail. The vampire assumed that Gabe was simply trying to escape -- he didn't realize that the teacher was only leading him to the metal shop. The leech actually had a moment to be surprised when the furious mortal burst into golden sunlight... just before bringing a table saw -- table and all -- down on his undead skull.

Since that incident, Gabe has sought to root out the corruption that eats away at society as a whole -- not just the education system. He knows now that there are monsters -- real monsters -- out there and preying on the weak. During the day, he still focuses most of his effort on his students (indeed, he has found that they are learning much more efficiently under his tutelage). But when the sun dips into the horizon, he holds the last bastion of light against the darkness that threatens to consume them. He has become something of a vigilante investigator, following the threads of evil to their origin and "cleansing" them.

He has also begun working on something in the metal shop after hours. Operating mostly on spur-of-the-moment inspiration, he isn't entirely certain what he is making yet. He knows, however, that whatever it is... it's going to be big.

''The first thing that most people notice about Gabe is that he always seems tired.  At the ripe age of 42, he isn't exactly in the prime of his youth anymore and a decade and a half of teaching high school kids probably contributed a few extra wrinkles, white hairs and stress lines.  He seems to skip shaving every other day and his hair is not always perfectly in place.  Nevertheless, his smile always shines through his almost dirty appearance and somehow seems to warm everyone's hearts.  When not lost in thought, he tries to pay as much attention to the people around him as possible, letting them know how much he appreciates them.  Though he is overly optimistic and cheerful, he never comes off as creepy.  He always seems honest and sincere, like a kindly uncle.''

In the fifteen years that Gabe has been a teacher, he has become a local celebrity among parents for his unparalleled dedication to his students' well being.  Good people know that their children are in good hands with Mr. Cordova -- bad people find out this same thing in a different way.  Over the last five years, Gabe has also proven to be a huge thorn in the side of many corrupt individuals within the education system.  He has relentlessly hounded administration officials in his efforts to stamp out the underhanded dealings which directly affect schools and their students.  Were it not for his popularity with local parents and his surprising influence with some city officials, it is likely he would have been laid off years ago.
