SHARED HISTORY Iron and Hundred (as we'll call them from here on) come from two minor families that have been close allies and friends for hundreds of years; respectively the God-Wind Raiders, originally nomadic dervishes from Persia, and Phoenix' Disciples, a small clan of warriors and scholars who study the many properties of fire. Ever since they were very small the two girls were good friends and were almost like sisters, as their family's landhouses were not far apart. One day the little Iron proudly showed off her training to her friend: her long and luxurious hair could move as on the wind, according to her will! Hundred grew very jealous at this, as she had not even begun to understand her own Legacy and her hair was short and like straw; not at all like the flowing silk of her friend. Iron noticed how sad Hundred got at this and teased cruelly like only children can do. In tears, and not fully understanding what she was about to do, Hundred grabbed the hair and showed what her own training had been so far.

Holy Fire.

When she saw what she had done it was already too late. Her best friend, just eight years old, was burning to death before her eyes. She wanted to stop it but did not even get the chance: a servant heard the shrill screaming and was so blinded with anger at the sight of his young mistress apparently under attack that he threw his sword at the assailant. Hundred was knocked back and impaled to an appletree. And then she lost consciousness.

IRON SUN RADIANT'S HISTORY Covered in bandages like a mummy and wearing a mask and hood all the time, Iron Sun Radiant grew up to be a mercenary, although she went under the title of Typhoon Dragon at the time. When she had enough money by guarding, killing, and stealing she paid some very famous doctors to restore her face and hands. They did their job very well, but her body is still a mutilated mess of skin and fat obviously molten, solidified into a leathery texture, and then stretched and torn by several growthspurts. This will require further treatments and thus more money. In the few years as a mercenary Iron did encounter a good deal more sexism than she expected. So she joined the Jade Dragon Society on her return to Shen Zhou City, which fights for the equal rights of women.

Her Legacy, Strike Like River, is a subtle control of air currents and chi to make her own hair move almost like it has a mind of its own. In essence she has two River tracks. One for regularly adding to her dicerolls, and the other to generate an attack with her own hair. At the end of any turn she can simply flow dice out of this second river and declare that to be the result of an attack. Kung fu can further modify the strike, but her other River and Joss can not (for good or ill).

IRON SUN RADIANT'S DESCRIPTION Though it's hidden fairly well under her clothes, this girl's body is covered in bandages from her neck all the way down to her elbows and ankles. Her hair is tealish-grey (I'm sure there's an actual name for it I'm not aware of) and bound back in seven thin braids. These fall down to about the middle of the back, where they are bound together with an odd affair: a piece of leather folded somewhat like an envelope, not unlike a quiver. It is some eight inches long, and it would seem that her braids are that much longer too. At the end of each braid is a sharpened razor-like blade that she can use with her Legacy. She has pastiche-green eyes and often a concerned look on her face. Why must the world be so much trouble?

NOTES

  • Iron Sun Radiant never ever fights her friends again, most notably her roommate the Monkey Princess. If they were to actually fight it would become apparent that they are, in truth, equally matched.

HUNDRED PHOENIX FEATHERS' HISTORY With her family's allies suddenly a lot less willing to risk their necks, the Phoenix' Disciples found themselves in trouble within a short, brutish decade. But there were mixed blessings on the horizon: Hundred Phoenix Feathers lost her right kidney to the incident in her youth and as a result had very weak silver chi, the watery energy of feminine yin. As a byproduct her fire energy of yang had skyrocketed, and the aggressive tomboy had no intentions of letting her clan roll over and die. She quickly found a school powerful enough for her purposes (not quite by accident the rival school of a recently returned Iron Sun Radiant) and smashed, beat, bit, clawed, and raged her way to the top. Finally with a tentative command over several very talented people she struck back and bought her family much needed time to lick their wounds and build up what they lost over the years.

Instrumental in her advance to the top was her Legacy Blaze From the Ashes, as this was not a democratic process. She needed to duel with everybody who desired the spot for their own, and that's just about the entire class of D-Ranks. Even if the fire and glory of Hundred Phoenix Feathers seems to have finally been extuingished, she can rekindle these things like her namesake. As a free action she can spend any amount of white, silver, or jade chi. She may then divide half that amount on her crimson and gold chi, having instantly "charged up" any lost points.

HUNDRED PHOENIX FEATHERS' DESCRIPTION At first sight not all that unlike any other chinese girl you might see. Short black hair that hangs to about her cheekbones and dark brown eyes. It's more her spirit that draws people to her: proud, strong and with a fire in her eyes and voice that makes the heart beat faster and more strongly. But most notable are the tattoos she sports. On her arms and legs are falling feathers in black and red, and these are often visible because she tends to wear sleeveless shirts and shorts; her strong inner fire would overheat if she wore anything more stiffling. Less often noted is the other tattoo she has, that of a somewhat abstracted black phoenix in flight on her back, beak pointing upwards across her spine between the shoulder blades, wings folded back and running down to the small of her back, and the firey tail blossoming out over the area where most girls wouldn't be comfortable with you staring too hard at.

NOTES

  • Hundred Phoenix Feathers has fought with Iron Sun Radiant twice, though they were never in a situation where they could properly finish the match. However, she hasn't used Holy Fire on this particular foe again. And nor will she, even if it was to save her own life.
  • A certain person was very important to the rise of Hundred Phoenix Feathers as the head of D-Rank class of the Scarlet Tigers. A certain creepy little girl who goes by the name of Loss and Joy helped her defeat Hungry Bear in her own mysterious ways, despite the fact that the latter enjoyed the tactical counsel of strategic genius Owl. The reasons why are, as always, unknown.
