Description of the Game

This game is an abstracted version of the Domain Building process commonly found in D&D games once a PC reaches "name" or 9th level. It mainly uses the Kingdom Building rules found in the D20 Pathfinder SRD. I have also layered in some aspects of the An Echo, Resounding rules for Labyrinth Lord.

Kingdom Building rules and definitions of terms can be found online here.

The Kingdom

Each Kingdom has three major attributes that define and describe them:

  • Economy
  • Loyalty
  • Stability

Other attributes that help to measure the Kingdom include:

  • Alignment
  • Unrest
  • Control DC

Other ways to measure the size and capabilities of the Kingdom are:

  • Treasury (measured in Build Points, or BP)
  • Consumption (monthly BP spend)
  • Number of hexes in the Kingdom
  • Number of settlements in the Kingdom
  • Number of districts in all settlements

Starting the Game

Each player begins by doing the following:

Create the party

Roll five sets of ability scores, to represent the adventuring party that's decided to settle down and build this kingdom. The rolls are 4d6, drop one, in order. Once all PCs are created, the player assigns one PC to be the Ruler and picks four other Leadership roles for his/her comrades. Add the Leadership bonuses to the kingdom's statistics.

A list of Leadership roles can be found here.

Set up the Kingdom

Choose an alignment for the Kingdom. Add the alignment bonuses to the kingdom's statistics.

Build your settlement's first improvements. Each Ruler can choose one of:

  • Inn
  • Monastery
  • Shrine
  • Watchtower

and one of:

  • House
  • Mansion
  • Tenement

Note that it's a requirement to build a House next to an Inn.
