Mal'rock is a village centered around and on a garos'thuja tree. The inhabitants make no distinction of the two and refer to both tree and village as Mal'rock. Wherein the surrounding land is devoured by the waters, the Trees' roots allow for an area higher and drier land. Here a tribe of gnomes dug their burrows centuries ago, and mouslings made a home out of the thick branches.

Gathering. Mal'rockans, of course, don't produce everything that Shaema has to offer. Hobbits often enough still go out of their village to forage for edible, medicinal, and magical plants and fungi as they have been doing throughout memory.

Bee keeping. Jabu brought this craft to Mal'rock from who knows where. He is promising to teach this magic to one of the Mal'rockans before he leaves.

Almost identical tradition, free exchange of members and a shared high shaman almost make the two tribes one. It's a joke among their Gnomish neighbors that the Mouslings insist on being separate only so they could have someone to compete with. Every festival includes a competition in wit and dexterity between the two tribes, the high event being a contest in marksmanship between each tribe's marksman.

Pritfit mouslings and Voki mouslings considers each other as rivals, but this view is held in a good natured way. The animosity comes out only during festivals, when friendly competitions of wit and dexterity are held. Younger mouslings have been known to take the rivalry too seriously, and injury does occur.

The two tribes both own a ballista, a 8 year old gift from their bottom dwelling neighbors. Each village has it's ballista team, consisting of two 'loaders', one 'eyes' and, a title of great respect, the Marksman. The gnomes claim the ballistas are capable of killing an ogre with one shot. For years the mouslings are awaiting an opportunity to test this. This grew into a years long bet for honor between the two tribes.

A few types mousling dwellings decorate Mal'rock. Some are simple holes in the wood, made by larger wood burrowing insects. Some are wicker tree houses with thatched roofs. A few are mud huts, inspired by those of the gnomes.

The tribe of gnomes lives in burrows around Mal'rock. These burrow are often dug directly under the roots for for sturdiness and extra protection. The dirt walls are covered with pebbles and florescent shells. The surface is also dotted by a few buildings that need large furnaces, like workshops, labs and distilleries. Underground they would use too much air and make too much smoke.
