‘’’Initiator:’’’ This single tarot like playing card is the focus that Akane uses during her Transformation, experimentation has shown that it is not strictly necessary, but she is always able to draw it out she tends to make use of it. On the front the image of Akane and the Starlight Magician leaning against opposite sides of the frame, looking one another in the eye across the image of a slowly rotating Earth.

'''The Spell Code:''' Shortly after Akane transformed for the first time, she took to experimenting with her new found abilities with great zeal, such early experimentation was uneven, frequently ended in painful, or at least embarrassing heartache and never worked according to plan. Frustrated by the lack of reliability and precision in her magical abilities, Akane set to finding a way to improve her control. This lead to the development of her ‘Spell Code,’ in the beginning she used playing cards as a focus, assigning ideas and values to them and trying to make the act of moving the card one and the same with moving her magic. She succeeded beyond her wildest hopes, shortly after she began, she noticed the slight impression of wires and thread between the cards she was using, and so she started letting a bit of the power she was balancing in the cards flow between into these wires, this she quickly learned gave her even better of how her magic fitted together and reached out to affect the world around her. Not long after she stopped using physical cards, and began using the visual/haptic illusions she still uses. As she continued to practice and develop her skills, she started to notice something strange, while her power flowed in accordance with the logic she rules she imposed on the Code, she started to find more and more little quirks and interaction within the Code which had effects she had not intended. As more and more of the Code is defined in the ''Starlight Grimoire'', less of it is her invention, and more of it discovered. Maybe it’s some natural trait of her magic, or her subconscious mind, perhaps it’s something to do with the Whispers, or something else besides. Right now, she just wished she knew where this ''Other Logic'' came from.

'''The Starlight Grimoire:''' As she began to development and formalization of Spell Code, it occurred to Akane, that is she wanted a reliable and consistent intermediary to help her control her magic, then it would likely be a good idea to create a written record of her process, if for no other reason than to force herself to take an extra step in the learning process. When the Code started to expand beyond her original intent, she become very thankful she already had something to record her discoveries, but, as seems to happen with everything involving Akane’s magic, it expanded beyond that.

The Grimoire is comprised of three journals, each detailing a record of different parts of her magical life. The first, the '''Blue Journal''', includes all the notes and research Akane has created relating to the Code, and her understanding thereof. The second, is the '''Green Journal''', this is part diary, part examination of her life as a magic girl, including such things as notes from her scattered meeting with Kekku, her encounters with others like her, and the frightful close encounters with daemons she has experienced. More than that, it has her musing on how it feels to use her magic, as opposed to the more clinical dissection of her power included in the Blue. Akane doesn't recall what she had once intended for the '''Black Journal'''. Only that a half dozen pages at the front are torn up or buried in ink and illusions. She does know ''exactly'' what it has and will keep on being for, and that is to chronicle the jumbled ramblings and ravings of the Whispers. She knows not where they come from, and thus far she has been avoided mentioning them, even to Kekku, who had warned her of some possible strangeness connected to her developing magic. She doesn't know what she’s going to do with them, especially as they keep getting clearer. For now she records what she can, and buries what she can’t, and hope.
