Mercy

The reformed bandit

Raised in a carpenters family in Barkstone, and while being kindhearted, Mercy fell in with the wrong sort of mice when he was young. His family was poor, and it didn't take long until Mercy started running with a local bandit named Yorn. Together, they would hold up out-of-town traders bringing in food and goods. Mercy was a carefree spirit, but he always made sure that nobody got hurt during the hold-ups. The traders would be threatened and forced to hand over their money, but Mercy never injured anyone.

Soon, the Mouse Guard came after them, and after a run-in outside Shaleburrow, the Patrol Leader Rhys had them cornered. Mercy tossed his blade and held his hands up, ready to give up, but Yorn would have none of it, stabbing the Patrol Leader in the leg and then running off. Mercy became angry at Yorn for having attacked a Guard Mouse and took up the pursuit of his former bandit-friend. When the rest of the Guard Patrol caught up with Mercy, he had subdued Yorn and was willfully arrested.

After Mercy had done six months locked up in Lockhaven, Patrol Leader Rhys came to his cell and released him, and also offered him a position with the Guard. Rhys told Mercy that he had seen good in him on the day of his arrest, and Rhys believed that Mercy could do a whole lot more good, given the chance.

Mercy took Rhys up on the opportunity and was sworn in to the Guard as a Tenderpaw later that day.

Upon becoming a full-fledged Guardmouse, Rhys had Mercy's tattered patchwork cloak lined with a golden yellow hem, and lined the inside with a warm sable fur.

Mercy is a Guardmouse. He is not a green Tenderpaw, but neither is he a true veteran of the Guard. Mercy has been active for about a year with the Guard.

Mercy does not save for winter, he runs and hides when confronted, and he fears owls, weasels and wolves. Age: 24

Mercy practices carpentry and glaziers during winter, his parents are not smiths, politicians, merchants or apiarists, he does like buying gifts for himself and his friends, he is not thrifty, he has been in debt but he always packs carefully for journeys.

Mercy makes friends easily, he does not have strong ties to the Guard, he already has a reputation as the reformed bandit who caught his old partner, he does have powerful enemies in the Territories (some Patrol Leaders don't fully trust him because of his thieving past), he has been convicted of a crime and he is not a loner.
