Dàoxuān was left at the Shaolin temple as a young boy. Abbot Fotuo accepted Master Sengchou's decision to admit the boy, who proved an eager student. His voice matured and his singing moved the hearts of the monks. Dàoxuān's appetite for knowledge was equaled only by his appetite for food. The growing boy excelled in his studies, and had a good heart. He found it within himself to stand up for justice, and was known to lend his aid to those in need. Dàoxuān found opportunities to help others many times while on journeys for his order. It seemed that his path was often crossed by oppressors and villains. Fortunately, his mastery of wushu grew almost as quickly as his mastery of song, and he made short work of them. Master Sengchou also taught Dàoxuān magic, and Dàoxuān's devout nature allowed him to advance in this area as well. Ultimately, he was admitted to the Chan sect, gaining access to additional mysteries. But Dàoxuān's encounters on the road had not gone unnoticed, and he was drawing undue attention to the monastery. It was then that Abbot Fotuo sent Dàoxuān forth to the world of Jianghu, having seen the student's destiny lay outside the walls. Now a seasoned veteran, Dàoxuān set upon his path, content to accept whatever lay before him.

Contacts:
Abbot Fotuo – Abbot of the Shaolin Monastery. Realizing that Dàoxuān's actions for good brought the monastery undue attention from government officials, the abbot set Dàoxuān free to journey through the Jianghu. The abbot looks kindly upon his disciple, and will provide what support he can. For Dàoxuān's part, he agrees the decision was for the best, and that his destiny lies in Jianghu.
Master Sengchou – Dàoxuān's sifu in Buddhism, Wushu and magic, and the only father he remembers. Sengchou had also walked the paths of Jianghu, but only for a few short years. His calling was teaching, and thus he remains at the monastery. Sengchou was known as Lofty Tree among the Wulin.
Master Dizang – Wise Monkey is a strange old monk who tends a small Buddhist temple deep in the Green Forest. He is scholarly, and many of the Wulin come to see him, and to meditate at the temple. Dàoxuān always visits when he is near this temple, which is called Ciyun. Dizang is also highly-placed with the Chan sect.
Shadow Flame – A warrior leader with his own biaoju, and one of Dàoxuān's friends. Shadow bears two magic swords, and is a friend to spirits of the elements. Upon occasion Dàoxuān has travelled with Shadow and fought beside him.
White Doe – half wild, she travels the Green Forest seeking always to prove herself. Her eye is often caught by light and color, and she has caused more trouble than most Wulin twice her age. One day, Dàoxuān was set upon by bandits, led by Happy Crocodile. He was sorely pressed until White Doe leaped down from the trees and fought like a whirlwind. Dàoxuān is in her debt, something she delights in reminding him.
