Background[edit]

Thrice-Radiant Ping is the daughter of Flesh-Devouring Tiger, a warlord renowned for his prowess and savagery stationed at the border to fend off the irrepressible barbarians. Tiger was the senior student of the legendary Iron Wolf of Shen Zhou, the honorable scion of an ancient style of Kung Fu. Tiger killed his master and the other senior disciples, earning a fearsome name for himself and becoming the sole keeper of many of the styles secrets. Though it was never proven just how he did it, the fights were each in openly-declared matches that left no legal openings for official reprisal. He has leveraged that power into a highly-sought military position, commanding the forces that patrol the Great Wall against the roaming barbarian tribes that constantly seek to scourge the Empire.

Ping's mother is a barbarian princess of the steppes, granted as a bride to Flesh-Devouring Tiger to seal a peace treaty after he conquered their tribe to put a stop to their raids. Unwavering Sunflower has imparted her own brand of wisdom to her daughter, it is from her that Thrice-Radiant Ping has learned that one only becomes a victim if you allow yourself to. She has never been heard to complain and only historians know that she did not enter into her marriage out of love. Largely unknown, she is also the keeper of a complete Heavens Boundless Prosperity manual, a rare ultimate collection of techniques that focus on combining internal techniques and understanding of the body's workings to bring one's true potential out. The existence of her tribe is simply a cover for the sect that is sworn to protect the writings and pass them on to a worthy successor.

Family life is eye-opening for the few that are allowed to be part of it. In public, Flesh-Devouring Tiger is the absolute master of his household as is fitting for one of his station. He brooks no argument and interactions are formal affairs suited for a throne room or generals command tent. In the privacy of their home things are more... fluid. Unwavering Sunflower is a masterful Courtier whose purpose is to ensure the safety and well-being of her people. She engages in a constant bargaining system where negotiation and this-for-that is the name of the game. The birth of Thrice-Radiant Ping is one of the fulfillments of the treaty that secured the safety of her people. Flesh-Devouring Tiger was irate to find his heir was a girl instead of a boy until Unwavering Sunflower pointed out that she was destined to be part of the Wulin anyway, and that it would be an even greater reflection of his prowess when his daughter was the one shaking the foundations of heaven.

Ping herself was raised in one military camp or another as her father moved according to the needs of the situation. Early on she was raised mostly by her fierce-eyed but devoted mother, with the help of some of the camp followers. Once she reached the age of nine, Flesh-Devouring Tiger decided that she was old enough to begin passing his legacy on to the next generation and began her training in earnest. She had the best, if rather ruthless trainers to prepare her for what was to come.

Appearance[edit]

Ebon black hair cut collar-length frame fine-cut features highlighted by sharp eyes the color of green jade. She takes pride in a vibrant, clean-limbed physique toned through constant exercise. She fills out the uniform of the school pleasantly though not extravagantly. Despite an emphasis on a hard, brutal style of combat she has avoided the typical scars and callouses through the cultivation of her inner chi.

Thrice-Radiant Ping effects an outwardly-friendly, vivacious exterior that conceals a vicious dog-eat-dog philosophy.

(The art of her is from the manga Black Cat, written by Kentaro Yabuki. I don't own it etc.)
