A character in [[Memphis Gods]], a Scion of Zirnitra. 

==Background==
Growing up Nathan always had an interest in death and was always more interested in the dead in the living. His father was a mortician and Nathan was exposed to death regularly as he grew up. Instead of following in his father's footsteps he decided to go to Med school and eventually became a coroner. His Visitation occurred when the body of another Scion ended up on his autopsy table. He had died in an attempt to foil a titanspawn plot and Nathan was tasked with finishing the job by his mother. Since proving himself, he has been mostly off the front lines, his medical knowledge being of more use than his martial abilities.

As soon as Wren opens the door to his family's home, he can see Dad proof reading one of his company's books, Dovena playing something on her tablet, and Sophia turning from the TV, "Hey honey! How was your prac..." Her greeting trails off as she gets a look at her son who was a shambles with a few cuts on his legs, bruises on his arm, and his gym clothes were in a shambles. "What happened to you!" She says getting up to comfort her son.

"Whoah!"Dovena comments looking up rather excited at this turn of events, "Did you finally hulk out and smash that loud mouth Kyle Gunderson?"

"Dovena!" Their father glares at her, then looks at his son with a few seconds of deep thought, "I think that it's time for you to go to bed." She is about to protest before he says, "I think that your brother has a very rough day and will need some time to himself. Please, just give him this space." He says going over to help her up.

With a sigh she gets up and head off to bed. After a few minutes to make certain that she's in her room, Sophia turns to say, "Now, tell us what happened Wren," She says getting some first aid for her son.

Wren says, "Well it wasn't the guys on the team with some random guys from around the neighborhood, to give us some flexibility for some pick up, you know? But as I started to make my way home when a couple of those guys jumped me. I thought it was just because we won and I'm the biggest guy on the team, then they started screaming, 'Die Dragon Bastard', which made me think they heard about my gaming group and it was some sort of jock hazing. But then they pull out some swords, axes and other medieval instruments of destruction and came at me, really looking to kill me!" He says quite frantically. "They start trying to eviscerate me, but I manage to dodge most of the blows but they managed to catch me a few times before one slammed me into a car and it just crumpled like a tin can, the most amazing thing was that I got up, broke one of the guy's great swords in half, it must have been solid hardened steel! But the weirdest thing, was the captain of their team, he started to say something in some sort of old English which I sort of recognized as some sort of... Force Cage spell or something. So I had to punch him in the throat... I... I think I killed him, only he sorta corpsified himself before he hit the ground. I was forced to kill the other guys did the same thing! Once the last one was down, I limped over here as fast as fast as I could."

He looks thoroughly spooked at this before saying, "Am, am I going crazy or are there really some zombies running around trying to bisect me?"

Both of the parents appear to look at each other with a knowing gaze, Sophia is the first to talk "I think it's time..."

Shaking his head, the older gentleman pulls out his cellphone, "I really hope that this would happen in a much more controlled and positive manner, but I think that someone has forced my hand..." He says hitting the stop watch app, "Alright, I will try to explain as much as I can in the next three hours, because that is all the time I have for a variety of reasons. Wren..." His father puts a shoulder on her son's shoulder, leading him to have a seat on the couch. "You are not crazy, that was probably a group of old einherjar or some free ranging draugur that wanted to get you either to gain some personal honor for one of the Nordic Pantheon or use your body for some rearrangements."

Wren just looks rather confused, "What? Why would they want to use me for some old magical ritual?"

Taking a deep breath, his father says, "There's no really tactful way to say this son... But I'm an ancient god of an all but forgotten pantheon, which would make you a demigod and quite a potent source of divine energy for those unscrupulous enough to try and harvest you for it."

"So... you are not Xander Zarkovski, mild mannered book publisher, but some weird divinity from thousands of years ago?" Wren comments looking up in disbelief.

"More like a thousand, but right on all other fronts." Xander says looking at her son, "But I am seeing that you don't exactly believe me?"

"Well most fathers think themselves as god, so why not... SWEET JESUS!" Wren cuts himself off as he is wished away from his home to some dark dungeon with the head of the size of their entire house gazing deep into his soul with a pair of golden eyes. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see the dark shadows surrounding him move, turning into the scales of a great beast which was surrounding her recognizable as a great dragon.

"I am not an insecure man going through a mid life crisis by conjuering some cheap tricks Wren Maxamillian Zarkovski! I am an ancient creature of power and magic that has not walked the Earth for centuries!" The great dragon that Xander turned himself into shouted at him for a minute with flames and lightning shooting up around him. A second later Wren was back in his room with his father and mother standing rather serenely, except for one thing.

"Lounge Lizard... you forgot to hide your horns again..." Sophia says pointing at her husband's head, "He always forgets those when he shows off."

As Xander feels the large set of horns coming out of his black horns, Wren says, "Y-you saw that?!??!"

"Of course dear, I was standing right here the whole time, how could I miss it?" Sophia comments turning back to her husband, "They're not going back in, just keep going with your 'Visitation'."

Wren slowly gets off the couch to say, "I... didn't... I mean I hoped some where..." He stammers trying to find the right train of thought. "Though I guess that explains all eight feet of my Herculean stature...."

"No that's just genetics," Xander comments waving Sophia away from fondling his draconic horns, "Half-dragons are always like that with possible other draconic traits coming about much later in age. Though I guess being a dragon god didn't hurt either..."

Slowing his breathing down, Wren says, "So... I'm a demigod... and half-dragon? I never thought that learning those racial template stacking orders would come up in a game, only now it comes up in real life..." He mutters a little unhinged to himself. "So what about Dovena? Is..."

"Yes, she's a demigod as well," Sophia says rather sorrowfully, "I really wish we could tell you all of this at once to get this over with and get everything straightened out up front. Unfortunately there are certain rules we have to follow, and that means you both get The Talk separately when they come into their divine heritage, like you have. I just hope it's less traumatic than with your own."

Running a hand through his hair a few times, Wren says, "So what happens now, are you going to kick me out to form a hoard of my own?"

"No!" Both of her parents blurt out at once before Xander comes back, "Well not right away. From here on there will be several... challenges, trials if you will since as you found there will be several more people, monsters, and worse who would want you dead for less substantial reasons than those today. Through out this time, I will not be able to give you any of my direct aid or sorcery like you have seen a minute ago, just give you some possible guidance but you must determine your own path like the other scion of the gods in this world."

"So there's more out there than me and Dova?" Wren says trying to take this all in. "So I won't just be heading off to college in several months, but will have to go out on these epic quests to dodge everything the dark depths of mythology can throw at me?" With the uncomfortable silence from both of his parents, he says, "I guess it would be best to start with who you really are. I always suspected that Xander was too cool a name for you not to have picked out for yourself..."

Xander easily moved the massive lazy boy in the living room like it was an empty apple crate to sit opposite her son, "Fair enough. I am really Zirnitra, Slavic dragon god of sorcery and war..."

After a long night of learning the secret truth about the world, getting his wounds treated, and taking a slug of his dad's vodka stash, Wren stumbles off to bed, stopping at the bathroom across from his sister's room to wash up before bed. Before long the door opens a bit to show her little sister poking her head out, "So... is everything alright Wren?"

"Yes, everything is alright Dova," He says around his toothbrush, "I just had to sort some things out with Mom and Dad about the fight. They weren't too mad but I got to do some things around the house before I leave for the magical land of college, so don't worry."

With a slight nod she says, "That's good. You do know that despite everything I harp on you about, I love you right big bro?"

Spitting out the froth in his mouth, Wren washes his hand, "Of course Dovena!" He says going on to ruffle her hair. "Well goodnight little sis!" He says moving on to his room.

As he leaves he can hear Dovena's door slowly close, "Good night dragon-born..." she whispers before shutting her door.

For a minute Wren whirls around at that last comment, his brain running a million miles per hour, "Oh this is not going to end well..." He mutters to himself.
