Early production Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver manufactured circa 1875. The revolver has a 4-3/4-inch barrel. The barrel appears to have been period retailer shortened in a similar manner as the Wells Fargo & Co. S&W Schofield revolvers with shortened barrels. The revolver has a highly polished blued finish on the barrel, ejector housing, frame and cylinder. The hammer and loading gate are case-hardened. The two-piece walnut grips have an oiled finish. The butt is fitted with a lanyard ring, which was standard on early production revolvers like this example. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A." in a single line reading toward the muzzle. The serial number "218" is stamped on the left side of the butt underneath the grips. "218" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips.
