=== Spell Research ===
To research a new spell, spend 150 gp and roll a Spellcraft check each day. If you equal or exceed the target DC, add your roll to a running total. If you fail a roll, nothing (immediately) bad happens but you lose the 150 gp. Once your total reaches the target, the spell is finished. Keep track of how many 1s and 20s you rolled as they might have some effect on the final spell.

The target DC is 15.5 + 2.5*SL, rounded down.

The target total is 4 + 65*SL + 7.5*SL*SL, rounded down.

Appropriate bonuses from libraries count towards research rolls.

* -20 - In combat, or under similar stress
* -5 - -10 - On a moving vehicle or in a noisy or distracting place

Time-spent-per-day modifiers from enchanting apply.

=== Other Research Projects ===
Other research projects are carried out the same way as spell research, but the DC and target total will have to be set by the GM. Other projects may use a skill other than Spellcraft and some modifiers may need adjusting or may be inappropriate for certain projects.

== Diplomacy ==
To convince someone of something, defame an opponent in front of an audience, or some similar extended action can be dealt with using social combat.
* Use your Diplomacy, Bluff, or other appropriate skill instead of an attack roll
* Use your Diplomacy + 10, Sense Motive + 10, or other appropriate skill instead of AC
* Use your hit dice times a modifier for your HP. Modifiers depend on your social standing within the current situation. For example:
** In court, commoners get HD*4, merchants get HD*6, knights and nobles get HD*8, princes and kings get HD*10.
** In back alleys, civilians get HD*4, cops and thugs get HD*6, lieutenants and specialists get HD*8, captains and bosses get HD*10
* Some targets may have DR or resistances depending on the situation
** Kings often get bonuses from other members of the court
** Convincing someone of something they already somewhat want or defaming someone that is already disliked may reduce the target's HP/DR/etc.
** Convincing someone of something they would never agree to or defaming a widely loved figure may increase the target's HP/DR/etc.
