The third son and fourth child of Baron Lucius Stormguard and his wife Elizabet, Tiberius is, in fact, no son of Lucius at all. His mother dallied with an elven noble, a single night of ill-considered passion, and Tiberius was the result. Fortunately for him, his elven features are very subdued: the slightest angling of his ears, a tilt of the brow, and intensely green eyes. His mother's family tends to be blonde and green-eyed, so he is able to maintain the fiction of being a pureblooded human and a true-born Stormguard. He wears his hair in loose, flowing styles to better hide his angled ears, and favors bright clothes that distract the eye from his own unusual looks.

As a third son, Tiberius is useless as either heir or "spare," and showed no aptitude for either clerical or military life. His mother was indulgent, his father distant, and he was more or less allowed to run wild. He amused himself by sneaking and spying, finding out secrets for his own pleasure, learning things he had no business learning, and otherwise running amok. It was in this way that he found his true heritage: his mother should have hidden her old diary better, but at least the reason for Tiberius's excellent nightvision is now clear.

As a young man, Tiberius soon became a fixture of the social scene, attending parties and galas of all varieties. The Stormholds are an old and respected family, and while Tiberius himself held virtually no political power, his charm and connections usually ensured him an invitation. He was also something of a ladies' man, flirting and flattering all the girls and unattached young women. He never took undue advantage - a kiss, perhaps - nor promised more than he could give. For him it was all a game, floating about like a butterfly in a field of bright flowers; to seek "conquests" as some young nobles did would blight the whole affair.

It was at yet another such party that Tiberius's view of the world changed dramatically. As the night progressed, he found himself in the company of a handful of bored young nobles. The leader, Crowley Estermann (of the South Estermanns) claimed to have found something that would really show them. Deep in the catacombs, in the flickering light of a circle of candles, he recited the ancient words from a crumbling tome he had procured from gods-knew-where.

And something answered.

Tiberus didn't know much about magic, but when Crowley's eyes started to melt, and he began intoning ear-hurting words in a deep voice not his own, he took it as a bad sign. While the others panicked, Tiberius kept his head, baiting and distracting the Crowley-thing as it lunged this way and that, allowing the other young nobles to get to safety. While he was playing cat-and-mouse with the Crowley-thing, he encountered two masked strangers, a man and a woman, who had come to retrieve the book Crowley had so ill-advisedly read from. They were agents of a group called the Mysterium, and Tiberius's actions in both saving his friends and helping them recover the book convinced them to offer him a new profession.

Tiberius still keeps up the facade of being a foppish dandy and a flirtatious social butterfly, but the rapier at his side is no longer for show, and he hunts for far deadlier prey than kisses stolen by moonlight.
