== Quadrant 15 == An empty system in neutral space, valued solely for being a jump point between Centauri, Earth, and Minbari space. A Centauri jumpgate formerly used by the military remains available for commercial use. Military vessels occasionally include the quadrant in their patrols to limit pirate activity and ensure that nothing endangers the jumpgate. Sensors sound an alarm if any vessel approaches the jumpgate without the proper credentials, and the three governments take turns keeping a response vessel close enough to react to any threats. The most notable feature is an asteroid field several minutes from the jumpgate. While not unique, some researchers visit the field to conduct experiments that would not be done in more populated systems. The closest destinations to Quadrant 15 are Beta 4, Regula, and [[#Epsilon Eridani]]. === The Tower of Babel === [[File:B5-BtD-AsteroidBase.png|thumb|left|text-top|upright|Babel]] ''Therefore the name of it called Babel, because the'' Lord ''did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the'' Lord ''scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.''<br> -Genesis 11:9, ''King James Bible'' (1769/2255)<br> <br> Hidden from the major powers (or at least not acknowledged by them) is a former Centauri listening post on the edge of the asteroid field. Disguised as just another asteroid, the location now functions as a smuggler's haven. Various criminals took up temporary residence in the early 2050's while waiting for the Babylon station to be built, but the destruction of four separate stations has caused them to view the base as a long-term port of call. The base's original name has been forgotten, but the locals call it Babel, or "the Tower" if they want to avoid using a proper name. The most notable feature of Babel is that it has artificial gravity. By default, this is set at one standard gravity (1g), though during an attempted takeover in 2254 the gravity suddenly shifted to 1.5 g. The station enforcers were prepared for the change, which gave them the edge they needed to secure Babel.<br clear=all> ==== Casino ==== The casino is the most luxurious area on Babel. It offers a variety of games, dining, luxury accommodations, and multiple private rooms for 'business' meetings. ==== Docking Bays ==== Each docking bay has space set aside to hold several shuttles. However, the number of berths available for larger craft are limited. Bays 1 through 6 are reserved for long-term residents, while Bays 8 through 16 charge a daily docking fee. There is no Bay 7 - the space originally set aside for it was used to reinforce the internal structure when the station was converted from military use. There is also a limited repair yard capable of retrofitting a single transport at a time. The docking bays are the only section kept at zero G, though select areas have (low) gravity enabled for transit or repairs. ==== Nightfall ==== Babel's entertainment section, home to restaurants, bars, and a thriving red light district. ==== Operations Center ==== Located near the center of the asteroid, this is the central hub where all operations are run, including security. Access is restricted to Babel personnel, and higher-ranking members have quarters within this section. ==== Trader's Row ==== The largest section of the station, Trader's Row contains both permanent and temporary shops, alongside extensive lodging. Space is at a premium, and most storefronts are no bigger than a small room. Many of the available quarters are 'coffin' rooms only slightly larger than the bed they contain, with communal amenities such as bathrooms and showers for a variety of species.
