If she was starting 6th grade like she was supposed to be, Chloe'd be an incredible prodigy; top of her class, etc. Even now, she's basically the world's youngest particle physicist, but her needing to cram in all the other subjects means that she's nowhere near that standing now. Seeing Abby take her "spot" while she's struggling makes her rebel out of immature spite.
