== Background == Darim is a follower of Ioun, and has been since he was a young child. Raised in one of Ioun's scattered temple-libraries, from an early age he has devoted himself to the service of the goddess of knowledge. Showing great spiritual aptitude along with a keen intellect honed by countless hours of meditation and study, Darim was chosen to train as a "retrieval specialist" for the church. Many works of knowledge were lost along with the fall of Nerath and the church of Ioun sends its agents around the world in search of these precious tomes and fragments, that they may be cataloged, transcribed, and archived to spread and preserve the knowledge they contain for all time. But far from being simple treasure hunters, Darim and his fellows are also tasked with combating the followers of Vecna, whose dark faith has long been at war with Ioun and her servants. Darim may appear youthful and naive at first glance, but he possesses an inner fire and ruthless determination in pursuit of his goals. Darim is a young man with clean-shaven, friendly features, sandy hair, and glasses. He wears simple but functional traveler's clothes and appears relatively innocuous at first glance. This appearance is spoiled somewhat by the large, two-handed sword that he favors in combat, which he takes some pains to conceal when it isn't in use. In battle, Darim is ruthless and determined...he has no great love of violence and will always seek a peaceful resolution to any conflict given the opportunity, but when he has no other choice he pursues the destruction of those who stand in his way as single-mindedly and decisively as he pursues his studies.
