== Background ==
Born on Forge World Perinetus, Sophie Caligari was quickly brought into the Adeptus Mechanicus, showing astonishing skill at conversing with machine spirits and maintaining machinery. Quickly gaining the recognition of her superiors. Sophie has never particularly cared for other people, more comfortable conversing with a Machine Spirit than with other tech-priests. 
A Free Thinker, Sophie desired to see and do things most would never dream of, Sophie used her influence to gain entrance into the ranks of the Explorators. 
For a time she essentially hitchhiked on any vessel, trading work for passage, this turned against her when an incompetent captain, decided to her of sabotage after a series of mechanical failures caused by poor maintenance, jettisoning her in a  saviour pod. Against all odds Sophie was rescues by the Arcadia, during the time Juvenal's father was still in command.  Using her connection to Toshiro, Sophie convinced Juvenal's father to allow her a position in engineering.
