===Upgrade (2 to 10 dots)=== ====Prerequistes: Crafts: *** (3)==== With this merit, a chararcter can tinker with a normal machine and improve its functioning. This takes a while, and parts cost extra, but the improvements can be dramatic. To perform an upgrade requires an extended check of Intelligence + Crafts + equipment, with the number of success equal to 5 times the number of dots in the merit required for the bonus, with each check taking 1 hour. For every even number of dots in the merit, the character may add a +1 die to the upgraded machine (2 dots is +1, 4 dots is +2, 6 dots is +3, 8 dots is +4, 10 dots is +5). This bonus can be added to other aspects of the devices functioning, for example improving a car's top speed or handling. Each +1 bonus requires a 1 dot in resources to purchase tools and parts for the upgrade. For example, Lenri wants to upgrade their coffee machine to brew +2 coffee. She has four dots in this merit, allowing for the upgrade. The upgrade requires four dots times 5 success or 20 successes, with each roll requiring one hour worth of work. Two dots of resources to buy parts, Eight rolls (and eight hours) later, the coffee machine now produces +2 coffee. ''Note: This merit allows building devices beyond the recommended +5 limit for devices, and it exceeds the normal 5 dot limit on merits. Your Storyteller may ban this merit for that reason. Listen to your Storyteller.'' [[Last Emperor: Merits list]] [[Category: Last Emperor]]
